Do you not think it is better to try to cash out on your expiring pieces this off season, sell for high (pick up pieces for a quick rebuild) instead of kicking the can down the road like Philly did and thus they have been stuck in mediocrity since 2010...

no, there is no quick rebuild option. If they had a farm system like say buffalo or mtl then sure you could make that work.

Jake and Pettersson are your only trade pieces that return anything. (malkin and letang return nothing at this point in their careers, Rust has NMC, rakell wouldn't be easy to move let alone not much return

You have Crosby still playing at a high level, Malkin and Letang playing fine, plus going out for Karlsson, you keep trying until the core is done.

IDK what Stephenson's value is, there is cap left to add to it if needed and i'm fine with that.

I think most teams are going to offer Jake 6 years x $9

Pens go longer term but less AAV and he gets to stay, that kind of deal wouldn't surprise me one bit. (plus the pens deal would be more money in the long run)

I wouldn't want to sign DeBrusk to that contract.
He's too streaky of a player and they system is totally different.
4 mil he's on now is probably right on par for a 3 year deal. If someone else wants to do more than that, be my guest.

I agree that the Pens may want to offer more term to lower the aav, but I’d have to imagine that it would AT LEAST be 8 million, even with the term. I’ve personally valued him at 8.5 million, accepting that fact that 9 million may be likely, but I don’t dictate the market. It will be interesting to see how things pan out. I hope he stays.

I’d have to imagine that Stephenson will fetch at least 5 million and it will definitely be for more than 3 years.

Believe the report that came out at the start of the season was that his agent said term needed to be at least 6 years and that most people assumed aav would be around $9M.

I don't think most teams would sign him for more than 6 years given his age, but that the pens would be willing to give him 8 for less aav
