the year is not 2020, and he's not a guy in his 20s playing for the bolts.

he's an aging third liner at this juncture. this isn't some situation where a team is retaining on a star just to make the cap work. he isn't worth that price tag any more.

Odds are you get Wennberg for less than Gourde.

That's fair. Gourde's not getting moved unless he asks out or it's his contract year so any offer is going to have to be an overpay. If you are asking for retention it's going to be even higher. Not having a lot of picks or top prospects really limits the B's offer.

out of curiosity why do you think management would be so opposed to moving him? they're not making the playoffs this year, the player is aging, and declining, and only has this year and next left on his contract. seems like a prime time to move him.

Team is still in the playoff hunt although the next four games may be the death nail to the hunt. The line with Bjorkstrand Gourde and Tolvanen has been their most consistent line since they started playing together last year. Replacing the pivot there isn't an easy thing to do and the Seattle's lack of organizational depth of people ready to play there. I think he gets moved in the off season as the cost for a buyer is going to be more reasonable and closer to actual value than at the TDL.
