Description

Saw this deal in another ACGM and thought it was interesting.

The trade doesn't necessarily create the best roster fit for this season (although adding blue line depth for the playoffs is always good), but I'd think Allvin and Co. would probably like to swap out 2+ seasons of Mikheyev for Oleksiak. He's a huge, PK'ing Dman that can play either side of the ice and could fill a top 4 role next season if all of Zadorov, Cole and Myers walk in free agency.

Mikheyev hasn't produced as much offensively as the team would've hoped, but he has been a solid two-way guy. I do think swapping that cap allocation from F-to-D opens up more possibility of extending Lindholm though.

I don’t hate the deal but I just don’t know if Kessel can be a top 6 forward in a contender at this point in his career

Very true. I figured the rumour is out there and if it's a cheap deal it might be worth a shot, but most likely a guy like Hogs gets a shot in the top 6.

The existence of Lindholm has the Canucks looking to find cap room now, and I think that both Mikheyev and Garland are on the block. You're correct that the Canucks need to move some of the $$$ they're spending from the forward group to the defense. I think that Lekkerimaki makes the roster next year and they give him a shot at a middle six RW position, so that will put a low price option upfront. They might also try Arshdeep Bains as well, or maybe in place of.

Either way, I'd love to see big Jamie on our blueline.
