Initial Creation Date: Feb. 18, 2024
Published: Feb. 18, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hertl is the best value for a long term 1c. Zacha can play wing in the meantime. Poitras can take over 2c for Coyle when his contract is expired. Carrier is a rental most likely, unless they want to trade Lohrei

I'd prefer to move Ullmark in the offseason, but now might be a good time to get Hertl and build a weakness at the expense of a strength

Sharks accept. Bruins could even keep Ullmark this year and stash Hertl on LTIR until playoffs.

hertl might be the worst value for a long term 1c.
first problem - his contract sucks and is LONG. it's not good today and I doubt it will be better when he's 36.
second problem - he isn't a good 1C.
third problem - this is a ridiculous overpay. i wouldn't give up the 2nd, let alone a first and lysell for that POS contract.

this is a disaster.

None of the three California teams would be interested in Derek Forbort.

What happened to Boqvist? Why bring Beecher back when that Lauko/Boqvist/Richard line is starting to pick up steam? Why bring in Hertl and lose valuable picks when he wouldn’t make the team that much better and whose contract will age terribly? Why get rid of BOTH Forbort and Grzelcyk without getting a bonafide goal scorer in return and when they’ll be needed as depth down the stretch and potentially in the playoffs? Why waste picks on Carrier when there’s depth with Wotherspoon, Mitchell and Regula? Sorry that I’m asking a lot of questions but I’m confused with all the panic when there’s 27 more games to go and we’re not out of the running yet!! I really hope Sweeney does nothing!

Why not? Free 6th round pick. Literally no downside lol

Los Angeles would decline because they don't have the cap space.
Anaheim would decline because they're developing Mintyukov, LaCombe and Zellweger behind Fowler, and also have Vaakanainen on the roster.
San Jose would decline because they have 6 LhDs on the roster already.

By the way, his high-cap-hit contract is under water and he turns 32 before the trade deadline.

I also hope he does nothing lol. But if they actually want a shot at winning they need a top center. Hertl is good. He would be much better in boston than San Jose. They also need a legit top 4 dman, which carrier brings. This is just the cheapest way to actually have a contending roster, because it feels like a waste to go into the playoffs as is, if they actually want to win.

And 1c's don't grow on trees, with no first round picks until 2025, by the time they land a potential 1c and let them develop, Marchand will be gone, pasta will be mid 30's, Lindholm and Mcavoy will be much older too. Worth it to take a cheap option

Hertl is hurt and would be on LTIR until the playoffs IF he’s ready to play and then would have to get acclimated to the system so it’s a big risk for THIS year! Carrier is a right shot RD and you have him on the left side. I could see using him on the 3rd line beside Wotherspoon but if he’s THAT good, he’s not being traded for a couple of picks! Good right shot RDs are tough to find and I think Nashville would want to keep him unless they value Barrie and Fabbro much more than him.
