In the Playoffs at Deadline

Created by: Lancebmx
Team: 2023-24 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 18, 2024
Published: Feb. 19, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If we are still in a playoff spot come deadline time, we should be modest buyers. No rentals, only players with team control or term.
With our defense the way it's constructed right now, makes making moves there not very easy plus most available players are rentals.
I think we need a bit of help in the bottom 6 in physicality and face-offs, currently 28th in hits and 20th in face-offs.
Trades
1.
DET
  1. Sturm, Nico
Additional Details:
Top face-off guy in the league and does alot of things right without the puck.
Has another year on his contract so he helps beyond this season.
SJS
  1. 2024 3rd round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
Seen trades with him going for less. I feel a 3rd is fair if they are willing to move him.
2.
DET
  1. Malenstyn, Beck
Additional Details:
I think a very underrated player in the league. Solid defensively and on the penalty kill. He is currently 19th in the league in hits while only taking 18PIMs. We are 15th in the league with power plays against which is definitely an improvement from the start of the year.
WSH
  1. 2025 4th round pick (BOS)
  2. 2026 5th round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
RFA after this season so able to be extended easily. Shouldn't cost too much to re-sign either.

Not totally sure on value, I expect he isn't super cheap for a depth forward
There might need to be another roster move or injury occur to make the roster numbers work. For now I'm just having 4 scratches.

For myself, I'd rather have the player over a 4th and 5th round pick. This is his first full year as a Capital and I think he can grow a bit more. He is also (although he hasn't shown it as much yet) a good hitter and will fight too. I just think he's not on the table to trade but good job on you to notice him. wink

Everything you listed is why I would like to acquire him. Skillsets like his seem to be more rare nowadays as kids just want to play offense. I would pay a bit more to be honest.
