Description
Do this before Kaapo completely cools down. It'd be best for everyone involved. He gets to go to a new team where he'll get top 6 and power play time while on a little hot streak.

I have no doubt that he will be a great player in 2, 3, or 4 years, but the window is now. With Vatrano, our top 6 is rock solid and signed for this year and next year to really go on some deep runs. We get Henrique to sub for Chytil on this run. Maybe we re-sign him if Chytil can't come back next year.

Sub the prospect for whatever prospect ANA would prefer that is currently signed in the AHL on this team. I think the two best are Berard and center Bryce Barker-McConnell. I went with Berard because I think he has more recognition.

For the lineup, flip Vesey and Cuyle around as necessary. In the bottom 6, I went for one line all scoring, one line all banging.

Kakko has little value. He's a bust at this point. Fine as a depth player, but too limited offensively to be a valued player. The probability of him becoming "great" is low at this point given his age and games played. What he is now will be what he most likely always is.

Lol bust = not an NHL player

Kakko is clearly an NHL player and a pretty good 3rd liner lol

No bust is a 2nd overall pick that is a depth player. That's way below expectations.

You’re talking about Kakko cooling down meanwhile Vatrano is the one who’s been on a heater all year and will regress lol

That’s called not meeting expectations. otherwise you’re just throwing the word bust around for a lot of NHL players lol

32/32 NHL front offices are expecting a lot more than a solid 3rd line forward on the 2nd overall pick. Way below expectations = bust. Rangers have a lot of them with Andersson, Kravtsov, and Kakko. Hopefully Lafreniere will be joining the ranks but I'm willing to give him another year or two before calling that one.

laugh Pat Verbeek isn't retaining on Frank Vatrano when Detroit is one of the front runners for him and doesn't require retention.

Hate to tell you this, but not every single top 10 pick comes into the nhl and becomes 100 point scorer lol

Maybe you’re the one who should lower expectations? Besides good teams have players like Kakko on their team for playoff runs

I consider about 50% of 1st rounders to be busts. Nature of drafting 18 year olds for a collision sport. There are cheap UFA 3rd line forwards available every off-season. Kakko isn't providing much value over his cap hit and if the draft were done over, there is less than 0% chance he would be taken at #2.

He provided about 40 points at 5v5 last year while continuing to have above average defensive metrics at age 22 all at $2.1m cap hit lol I don’t see how that’s a problem…

Not sure what 3rd liner you’d take over him right now? Considering you’re a Pens fan, you’d rather have Reilly smith? Bemstrom?

I didn't say a problem just not great value for a #2 pick on what should be a good value contract. He's produced at 4th line rates in both 2022 and 2024 and even in 2023, he wasn't producing at great rates. A little above average. So there is nothing showing progression or promise beyond what he has shown now. And I'm quite confident if polled, most NHL players, front offices, and fans would identify him as a bust for a #2 pick.

NYR are 28-7-2 with Kakko in the lineup. They are 11-9-1 without him in the lineup. He had 7 points in his past 9 games since being put on a line with Brodzinski & Cuylle.
It was a clean elbow.

Anaheim declines that for sure. @GeneralLandro was correct about the two 1st round picks value-wise.
