I doubt VAN does that, but i've said in similar posts that JR will absolutely yeet the future into outer space if they're going for it all.

I had the exact same trade for CAR and got heat for it. IMO at the end of the day they're not going to be able to pay everyone on their team, and I think they've been one of the "contenders" in the last couple years but have come up short which makes me wonder if they'd go make a splash trade for Jake (also agree on inter division tax, but it does in fairness go both ways)

Cap won’t work for the Canucks.
2nd big game hunting is likely done.

Ken Holland has said he's not trading Broberg unless the player coming back has term. Take that with a grain of salt but 3 x 1st rounders(2 already NHL ready if in PIT) for a rental, even of Guentzels caliber, is a tough decision to make for a pure rental. Holland would need permission to make this trade since it sounds like he's retiring this summer.

Broberg is a bust and Holloway is hardly worth a 1st round designation at the moment.

What rental pulls a top 6, 70 point capable player?
Now what rental pulls that and a 1st?

          What a delusional valuation

Hossa got a top 30 prospect, two under 25 top/middle 6 forwards, and a 1st. He was 29, a 40 goal scorer, with 6MM on the last year of his contract. He was the last rental traded that is close to the value of Guentzel

          Guentzel for 1st + Holloway + Bourgault
Retention would add a 2nd or Broberg

And Necas isn’t a middle six forward. How long ago was that trade again? Rentals dont pull these levels of returns for a reason. GMs will trade stupid levels of things once in a while. Hossa and Jeannot trades as examples but they aren’t trends for a reason.

They aren't trends because players of that calibre are rarely traded. Name 3 rentals better than Guentzel who have been traded in the last 20 years? I can't find one. Marty was worse. Hossa was worse.

It is hard to find 3 players better than Guentzel who have been traded period in the last 20 years.

Guentzel isn’t in some rarified air. This isn’t crosby we are talking about here. Guentzel is a goal scoring winger. Those get traded and not for that return
