Pettersson to NYR in Offseason

Created by: bogdown
Team: 2024-25 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 25, 2024
Published: Feb. 25, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I'll admit I'm quite critical of Pettersson's play, especially in the last month. However, I still believe the Canucks do whatever they can to sign him. I trust Rutherford and Allvin to do the right thing and make the whole process fair for Pettersson. Right now, Petey is not playing like a 12 million dollar player. However, he's still top 10 in points and one of the best players in the league. My ideal contract for him would be the Jack Eichel deal. If they do end up trading him, I think this is what the team could look like for the next 10 years.

Just hand the Rags one of the best forwards in the league for a boom/bust prospect, a couple late round picks and a 2nd LHD. Wow!

And you are correct that isn’t going to be the Pens taking that trade.

Bust prospect?! What makes Gabe a bust in your mind?
I think the biggest issue is that NYR can't sign him. They do not have the cap.

Boom/Bust… meaning he will either be a star or not in the NHL. He’s a risky prospect.

Sure fair enough. But I feel like the money issue is the biggest issue here.

All because Friedman did his usual thing and blow it out of proportion. That guy’s entire job is to drive up the hype around trade potential whether it’s real or massively exaggerated. Franchise players rarely get traded and they’d be fools to send away a clear franchise player.

Whether or not we sign Pettersson, giving Lindholm 8x8.5 would be a mistake. If that’s what he wants let him walk

Of course. And if it does package will be more like what Tkachuk got. And not this.

How is he risky? Lol he’s produced at every level he’s played at….that’s like saying Will Smith and Leonard are boom/bust too lol

That's a no from the Rangers. Can't afford Petey's cost and too much for him anyway.

It’s what was said about him by scouts and at the draft, not my words. He slid for a reason. Players like I m can become superstars like Pasta did or they join the many footnotes of the draft. They aren’t the same as safe picks, guys you know will have decent NHL careers even if they aren’t stars.

Yea they said that at the draft lol…a lot has changed since then like dominating the WJC and the NCAA as a freshman

His only weakness is skating and can be worked on. A guy with his caliber of hockey IQ rarely becomes a bust. He reminds me of Fox and Panarin

So if he becomes a superstar good for you. The fact is if Vancouver is trading one of the best players in the league (and 99% chance they don’t) it’s going to be for something better than that offer.

lol you guys call this “handing over the farm” for a guy who’d be your best forward instantly! For a franchise that’s won 2 cups in 83 years you people sure do have a big opinion of your players!

I mean i don’t know how many teams can offer a package that is enough for a top 5/10 center lol

Whatever, like you say they'd want more which is ridiculous plus we'd have to shed more good cap to fit him in. Not gutting team to pay lil Petey 12m+. It has nothing to do with your tmz assumptions lol

Honestly you’d have to trade Mika for it to work. Good news though is it won’t happen.
