Isles Retool

Created by: dayton21
Team: 2023-24 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 14, 2024
Published: Feb. 25, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is some things I would want the Isles to do leading into next year. I think the true core of the team is Barzal, Bo, Dobson, Pulock, Pelech and Sorokin, with that core a full rebuild is impossible, this retool would put them in a position to compete for the future. Another Draft day/offseason trade for a winger is definetly needed, 3 guys I had in mind depending on their teams needs is Kuzmenko Ehlers and thinking Ottawa wants to shake up things maybe Batherson. What wingers do you guys think? A free agent could work as a short term fix like Eberle, Sprong or Tarasenko.
Trades
1.
LAK
  1. Clutterbuck, Cal ($850,000 retained)
  2. 2024 5th round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
LA reportable wants a grit forward in exchange for him, Cal fits that and is a penalty killer. 5th round pick to sweeten the pot.
2.
NYI
  1. 2024 6th round pick (NSH)
EDM
  1. Reilly, Mike
Additional Details:
Bolster any contenders blueline for cheap, even though he was waiver claim, proven to be a regular nhler with a chance.
3.
NYI
  1. Johansen, Ryan
  2. Ritchie, Calum [Reserve List]
  3. 2024 1st round pick (COL)
  4. 2024 5th round pick (SEA)
Additional Details:
5th rounder turns to a 4th if the aves make conference final this year. Could easily see this in real world being 2 firsts for nelson.
COL
  1. Nelson, Brock ($2,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Retained 2 mil to make cap hits the same, Aves finally get their 2c for rest of this year and NEXT for 3 mil, value is even, if anything could be more Nelson is an extremely under rated center who can score and kill penalties, and play wing if needed.
4.
NYI
  1. 2024 6th round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
cheap depth D to help their injured D corps.
5.
NYI
  1. 2025 7th round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Any team looking to add some playoff grit
BOS
  1. Martin, Matt
Additional Details:
doesnt need to boston, just think itd be a good fit.
6.
NYI
  1. 2024 2nd round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
Nashville is looking for forward help, they can easily flip him for more at next years deadline if they desire.
7.
NYI
  1. 2025 4th round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
NYR traded a 3rd for third party retention on Kane
EDM
Doesnt have to EDM, just an extra pick as the Isles can use their space to help retain $ as a third party.
    8.
    NYI
    1. Zegras, Trevor
    Additional Details:
Ducks get a haul of picks they can use as they are getting closer to competing, Zegras seems to be the odd man out with their young talent and its been a bumpy year and a half for him there with rumored of them shopping him and wanting to move. Can also get crazy and take 50% of Lee for more picks but decided not in this mock up.
    ANA
    1. Johansen, Ryan
    2. Odelius, Calle
    3. 2024 1st round pick (COL)
    4. 2024 2nd round pick (NYI)
    5. 2025 4th round pick (EDM)
    Additional Details:
Can be ANA choice of Johansen or JG, this is a draft day move that makes sense for the isles to get younger and fill that 2C void. I think 4 assets is more than plenty to move, Johansen more of a dump that they could flip.

Could just do Wally for Kalivyev straight up

Would love that return for Nelson

I am leaning to no from Anaheim

Everything else is ok, but very unlikely we get a 2nd for Palms if we aren't retaining

I can see a 2nd only because I think he has been one of the best players under Roy and his production is up, but a 3rd is okay as well. Anaheim and Zegras is a weird spot with where they are at, another guy I thought about is Terry.

TB doesn't do small defensemen. Usually 6'+ 200lbs+ or at least real close on both
