TDL 24

Created by: KDow88
Team: 2023-24 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 26, 2024
Published: Feb. 26, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Retaining Campbell for $2m the rest of the deal to save more cap wise the rest of his contract, maybe AZ gives him an opportunity for next season which burns another year off the potential buyout, even if not and they buy him out it would help them get to the Floor while his cap savings for Edmonton would be $4.6m, $4.08m, $3.96m, and $900k each of the last 3 years..
Ceci and Broberg help update the Blue Line and getting Durzi who is Arb Eligible for 2 more years offsets losing Broberg long term..
And Bring back Bjugstad to play in the top 6 with Leon and Kane, or move McLeod up to play with them while he solidifies the 3C position..
As far as Foegele would just much rather get another potential C for the 3rd line who can play wing that is more defensively responsible and has more offensive upside in a bottom 6 role..(Yes, I understand Foegele has a couple more points, but when he's playing in the bottom 6 he's not helpful at all, only gets those points when playing with 97 or 29 and he's consistently inconsistent with them at best...)..

please stop with the campbell deals, and of all them this is about the worst. i love your attempt at an explanation you try but you really cant make any justification from AZ point, this is flat out awful for AZ.

Ohh, I whole heartedly agree that he has next to no trade value, however there is a floor to get to and the Yotes took on Kassian a perceived unattractive contract as well, at least with this their not getting Campbell at full hit.. But I agree and understand he's likely not going to be dealt and will for sure be bought out in the summer- but doesn't hurt to try when you add Broberg who they really like allegedly and a couple high picks to off set the cap situation- should they want another prospect I'd say why not like Lavoie...

AZ currently is 3m under cap - next year they are almost at floor w 12 roster spots to fill - 5 are RFAs will easily put above floor before other 7 slots are filled. this deal hurts AZ a ton in current time and only helps in the future if the late 1st becomes a stud and or if campbell somehow returns to 5 years ago form - sorry this is a non starter for AZ

If they're worried about the floor (and I have no idea why they would be), they can overpay free agents they actually want. No reason to burn tens of millions in actual cash on an AHL goaltender.

Even without taking back Campbell, I can't see them trading Durzi (who has outperformed my expectations), their second line all-situation center on a two-year deal, and Vejmelka for Ceci, Broberg, a first and second. It's just not enough incentive for them to move those guys.
Wouldn't move Durzi for Broberg. No reason to move Vejmelka for a second. Bjugstad is more valuable than Ceci. Wouldn't take Campbell for a first.
It's sort of a deadend. You picked three guys with important roles and offered easily disposable assets: a dump and a prospect losing his shine, a defenseman approaching dump value, and a late first and a second three drafts away.
