Description
These acquisitions just fit Sullivan’s system better. Here’s why:
Eberle is a skilled player whose zone entries primarily come through carries. He generates chances off of the rush. These are both things the Pens need in their forward group.

Wennberg is a defensively responsible center who chips in goals at the net front. His presence would fit on the PP and in that bottom six even if he isn’t a big point producer at 5on5.

Realistically, I assume the Pens would be outbid for Eberle by himself. It’s a matter of what picks they’d give up as well as prospects/Seattle’s interest in current roster pieces. We know Dubas doesn’t want to give up the future but he’s put a potential 3rd rd pick on the line already so if the fits there then he could do it. Broz is a solid prospect who’s top 10 analytically in chances generated in the NCAA but he plays at a slower pace that doesn’t fit this team. We’ll see how it winds up but this exercise is more about the fit than the cost. Tolvanen would be the ideal target to get a young winger but I’d be surprised if Seattle moved him even if he has arbitration rights.

Megna has a history of success with Karlsson and shouldn’t cost much as a former waiver claim. Pens didn’t get a chance to claim him with Chicago being ahead in the order.

You could also nitpick the price for Reilly Smith. I could see anywhere from a 3rd to a 5th but Vegas would be getting a player with 100% certainty of his fit and they’d get him for two playoff runs. I think with retained salary you could definitely fetch a 2nd but we’ll see. Matt Nieto is thrown in there for that depth and PK role and he’s also on a multi year deal for cheap which has some value to a team like Vegas.

Probably nitpicky but I think the Hawks would want slightly more for megna. He might be a waiver wire claim but hes been a super solid and consistent presence, and pairs great with korchinksi playing top 4 minutes. Not a first round pick but maybe a third? fourth?

That’s fair, I can’t see him fetching more than a 4th or a C-tier prospect. It may just be a case of he has more value to Chicago than he would on the market. Zohorna is just there for a contract slot so maybe you could swap him out with a more intriguing player to bet on.
