Danforth's already extended through next year, he's probably not getting traded. We'd want some kind of pick coming back in addition, though, if we did move him.

Yeah, looks like there can still be retention on his current expiring contract. Would a 24' 5th rounder or 26' 4th rounder suffice? Heck, take em' both if needed!

To max out the deal, you'll need a sign & trade and there's probably only three or so teams that have a realistic shot at signing him (BOS, TBL, TOR). Lily & Robo is pretty much equivalent to some of the Proitas & Lorei packages I've seen bandied about. Leafs can also offer more picks in 2024 than the Bruins or Lightning.

Apparently Conroy told Tre that Hanifan wouldn't be a good fit, I'm assuming that means he has no interest in resigning there. What makes you think he would?

True and that's the problem the Flames are already very hesitant to trade with the Leafs, there is simply no chance they give up the biggest market piece to them for less than they can acquire from a team that has a much higher chance of re-signing him.

Also not really, Leafs fans tend to really overvalue Liljegren and Robertson, they both have injury issues and simply don't have the same potential impact as younger players like Poitras or Lohrei, not to mention the fact that the Leafs are almost guaranteed to not be able to re-sign him so i'm not sure why you guys want him so badly.

It would be a much better use of your assets to trade for a RHD who isn't deadset on playing in the States

I’d probably be ok with that Hanifin trade. As a Flames fan.

Well, not sure what to make of that and its impossible to know what Hanifin is really thinking. Leafs are clearly not done making moves and Tre has never been shy to make a big splash. Besides his connection with Hanifin in bringing him to Cgy, there's probably also a relationship with Gio, Brodie and Matthews as well. Unless its been verified that he flat out won't go there, you can't rule the Leafs out.

Leafs have more than enough flexibility to sign him and I haven't seen one verified source indicating he is deadset on playing in the states.

There is plenty of articles such as this and it’s very obvious considering he just watched Tanev, Gaudreau, and Tkachuk move to the States.

I highly doubt you guys have enough flexibility to pay Hanifin his expected 7-8 million when you have half your cap tied to 4 players.

Thanks for sharing. Friedman is usually pretty spot on but still gotta wonder if Toronto would be a possible exception in this case. I guess we'll find out soon enough.
