Description

Chris Johnston said the 3 realistic targets for the leafs this week are:

-Bogosian
-Dumba
-Savard

Knowing the leafs, they’ll end up getting bogo (which I don’t want + he doesn’t want to play for a Canadian team)

I really don’t want Dumba but prefer him over bogosian

Savard would be my number one choice. Has 1 more year on his deal at a somewhat reasonable cap hit. I think he’d look great next to Rielly.

I'm sure the habs will give us a discount lol

Ik im slightly over cap but Brad can figure out the rest

Tanev went for a 2nd + conditional 3rd so I think a first + player with NHL experience + a player ready to make the jump (steeves) + prospect (Tverberg) would be enough for 2 playoff runs with Savard

I know if we were to acquire Savard it’d cost an arm and a leg because he isent a rental and it’s the habs. I think I’d be close with this deal even tho I do agree it’d be an overpay

The way Holmberg has played he shouldn't be moved. Rielly was again lost in his own zone, you would think this long in the league he would start to figure out that he doesn't chase the guy crossing the front of the net that is Bush guy to leave the backdoor play wide open. He has the least d-zone IQ of any d-man on the team.

Contrary to the reputation Savard holds as a DFD - you have to also realize he was an amazing DFD in CBJ: But in MTL? He’s actually taken a step back on defence and actually provides good offence with not great defensive numbers with the Habs - though odd that sounds. He’s an odd one for sure, but in MTL his contributions indicate he’s playing like an OFD.

Totally agree with this. To be fair, he is a great OFD with a big emphasis on his offence. He definitely performs in the playoffs in terms of scoring but people completely disregard just how horrible he is on his own end. For years the Leafs have been looking for the perfect RD alongside Rielly and they found Brodie. Now, Brodie is having a terrible year but to be fair not a lot of defenseman are going to look great when you have Rielly bringing you down; that’s how BAD he is on defence.
