I think if that’s all that Boston is offering Van would just keep lindholm

Quite the return for a team possibly trying to get rid of him. If there's no extension and a good contract (which is questionable), it's a waste.

Lysell is a better prospect than the prospect you gave up for Lindholm and Debrusk retained should be close to equal value to the first rounder you gave up.

You dumped a terrible two year contract in that deal as well

I don’t know if I’d refer to it as a waste if they want to secure him, but you are right that Boston could probably substitute Grz for DeBrusk and maybe add a secondary pick or prospect for retention

I think the leverage would be we could just sign him outright in the offseason and he will likely be available, but I doubt Vancouver, Winnipeg, and Boston were the only bidders

They can't use a valuable asset to acquire a rental and let him walk, this isn't the year to do it. Either don't add that type of player or re-sign him. Now, it would be tough to get Lindholm on a good contract because he probably wants a big one at this point in his career.

My guess is if they acquire Lindholm, they are signing him long term.

I’d love to get him for free, but I also know that Marchand has only so many playoff appearances in him. I think they’ll pay a price to get him. If they believe they won’t sign DeBrusk, this could be an alternative where they lock in predictable salaries and it costs them Lysell.

I’d love to get him for Lysell, Merkulov, and Forbort … but I think that puts Vancouver’s offer for Guentzel as lacking.

You better get Lindholm on a really good deal (which I doubt) if you're involving Lysell.

My guess is that the salary they offer Lindholm will be higher than you want. If Sweeney decides to go down this route, I’ll trust his judgment. It’s easy to look at deals in retrospect, but he seems to have a great feel of how players fit within the system

It won’t happen if he doesn’t want it to.
