and the day after they do that, the season ticket holders all cancel their seats, and the team goes broke.

For Pittsburgh to be able to afford trading Sid, they'd need Makar to be PART of the return... yes, Makar PLUS.

or

Mario finds the fountain of youth and comes back as an 18 year old.

One of these is more realistic than the other... and it's not trading Sid.

While I get you think trading Crosby is absurd, to think makar has less value than him is crazy. While I don't think he will.be traded and is a staple to what a penguin team is, it could in theory jump start a rebuild to bring more championship to pit. Other wise have fun living out his last years as a fringe team and starting over with nothing

I know people assume because he is good that crosby will have significant value if traded, but I honestly dont think he would fetch that kind of a return. Keep in mind he would be forcing his way to colorado making it easier for colorado to get a good deal.

I don't think Makar has less value than Sid... actually quite the opposite. But I know that the Pens would need a superstar on the team to sell tickets. Did makes the Pens money... that's the bottom line. if they trade Sid, they need to get back someone who will draw people to buy tickets. Makar obviously fits that description. Trading someone like Sid is about more than just hockey skill. You need to realize, Pittsburgh is spoiled. They've had Lemieux, Jagr, Sid, and Malkin since 1984... Most of the fan base doesn't remember '83 when they tanked to get Mario, and those that do couldn't see anything thru their paper bags. Most of them don't remember the years when Mario retired and before Sid when Rico Fata was the team's top forward. The team almost left the city twice because of lack of revenue. They literally cannot afford to trade Sid without getting an absolute overpayment back for him.
