    Smith really ins't enough of an upgrade to warrant a 3rd. Plus Detroit is going to need the cap space to resign Seider and Raymond.

    Don't want or need Smith, and adding him is pretty counterproductive to our cap.

    To be fair though this seems like it could be a place holder hypothetical, Smith could be flipped to several different teams for at least a 3rd

    Pittsburgh traded a 3rd for Smith last off season and had put up 26g - 30a - 45p. So far this season he has 11g - 18a - 29p and is on pace for 15g - 25a - 40p. So why would Detroit give up the same when his play has obviously decreased. Plus if it was that easy to move Smith he be gone. When it comes to flipping players for part of the return you have to have a player with significant value something a 34yr Smith doesn’t have. Especially with his $5M cap hit.
