While you’re at it, why not just empty the tank of the rest of the picks. That 2026 1st is lonely and needs friends…

It's all good i have successfully traded him to Ottawa to see if they being Ontarians can explain it better.

I am curious, what do you legitimately think Parayko would fetch in a trade if you consider the offers to be "painfully delusional". Genuine question.

Fair enough, I welcome genuine questioning.

Well, like I said, neither I nor the Blues want to trade him. So there's that. It's not like he's being offered around. Then there's the factor that the Blues have absolutely no one in the organization who can come anywhere near replacing him, now in the future. Some will say "oh his bad contract!" but the Blues would tell you that having him locked up for a more than reasonable cap hit that will only get more affordable as the cap rises a ton in the coming years adds to his value - not subtracts from it. And that's all before we even get to his NTC, which he would exercise very freely, I can promise you that. But that's not really relevant to your question, just an added hurdle worth mentioning.

So... obviously a legit top 4, if not top pairing RD or RD prospect would need to come back. Just to start with. I know you guys are high on Niemela, but he is 1) not the type the Blues would want, as he's kinda small and defending is not a strong suit & 2) he's simply not as valuable as some folks in Toronto want him to be. He's a B-B+ prospect. I'm not saying he's bad or anything like that, he might be a decent mid-lineup player one day. But he's not gonna do the trick. Same goes for Lily. Robertson, again, he's a nice 3rd line-ish winger... when he can stay in one piece. Nothing wrong with HIM, per se, but he's not going to entice this kind of thing. Brodie is essentially worthless, as without Parayko this automatically becomes the tank as fast as you can game. Yeah, maybe we can retain and get back a non-1st pick or whatever, but again, that's not enticing in any way.

I'm sure it sucks, but the Leafs really do not have what it would take. Nothing they'd part with, anyway. I'm still waiting for the Willy-for-Colt era to resurrect.

First, I'll absolutely agree with you that it's dumb when people say Parayko is on a bad contract. I take a mobile, hulking, top pair RHD that's not too old for $6.5m every day of the week. I think people are insane saying he's over the hill or washed just because he's not playing Norris level hockey right now. All day every day do I take that.

I get you might not want to trade him either but none of us can pretend we actually know what our team does or doesn't want to do or entertain doing. As far as the full tank mode goes, I think if they move Buch like some have speculated then they are ready to rebuild and Parayko makes sense to go as well. Being 6 points out of a wild card spot is a steep hill for them to climb.

I'll also agree it's easy for Leaf fans to get overhyped on our own prospects but I also think that's partially a result of every non-Leaf fan downplaying every single player or prospect in the system that isn't part of the main core as "useless crap" so it's usually an oversteer response imo. I also think that while you have in mind (I say you in the general sense, not you specifically) what an ideal return would be for a guy like Parayko, it doesn't necessarily mean that's what's exactly going to happen. Last deadline is a great example. I'll caveat this by saying I know the players I'm about to mention aren't the same level as Parayko but the general point remains the same. When Chicago traded the Leafs McCabe and Lafferty, everybody thought when they were moved Chicago would get a haul for them because it's the deadline and they were sought after and playing well. Then Chicago took a 1st a 2nd and two players barely above beer league quality, one of which just cleared waivers a week before the trade.

St Louis at least has the benefit of Parayko having much more term than McCabe had so they're not desperate to move him but if they're in rebuild mode and want to collect assets, you could do a lot worse than a young talented winger and a young skilled D man with a 1st. Again, I understand what an ideal return would be for a fan but doesn't always mean it will happen and GMs also don't always value players in the same way a fan does.

Anyway, long story short lol I think it's possible to find a deal for Parayko if they did decide to move him and don't think it's outside the realm of possibility. I do appreciate the thought you put in your response and not being a complete d bag like a lot of people on here haha

I need to edit here so my responses are easily connected to what I'm responding to.

1 - Well, that's simply not true. My Blues call track record around here is actually quite on the nose. My big goof was saying they won;t sign Hoffman. Other than that, my record stands up quite well. And I'm not the only CF Blues fan who can say that. There's loads of Carolina posters who know what Waddell would or would not do. It depends on the team and it definitely depends on the fan base.

2 - Nope. Not even sure how you got to that.

3 - There is no pressure whatsoever on this season. Making the playoffs or not has zero effect on anything. And six points is nothing over 20 games anyway. Nashville ain't gonna go 9-1 every 10 games.

4 - Heh. Nah. They're just loudmouths who have no clue what they're on about. I will say that part of the blame goes to the Toronto hockey media, who just lie and pander to these fans. Telling them for years, oh Bracco is a surefire all-star! Just you wait! No, Bracco is nothing, he's slow and small and barely tries and can't even spell backcheck, and it should be obvious he's not going anywhere ever... but try and tell them that. It's futile. They think Parayko is a cap dump and Niemela is Borje 2.0. These ones we're talking about, they live in a fantasy world.

5 - I don't. Never consider such a thing. There's no point to wondering and I have many other things to occupy my brain with. smile
