Remaining Moves

Created by: netminder71
Team: 2023-24 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 7, 2024
Published: Mar. 7, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A couple more UFAs exit and a patchwork (AHL) line-up for the remaining 20 games. But keep Dowd. Unless someone way overpays. And Lindgren too.
Trades
1.
WSH
  1. 2026 4th round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Alexeyev, Alexander
Additional Details:
A 6th/7th type defenseman w/ prospect upside. He's not been developed well in DC and GMBM sees him as a busted prospect. A future pick is not a hefty price.
2.
WSH
  1. Kaliyev, Arthur
  2. 2025 2nd round pick (LAK)
LAK
  1. Jensen, Nick ($550,000 retained)
  2. 2026 4th round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
Jensen rounds out LA's Top 2 pairings on D, Caps take a flyer on Kaliyev's fresh start. Jensen is worth a second by himself and the 4th plus retaining a bit of the salary is a low-risk buy on Kaliyev.
3.
WSH
  1. 2026 3rd round pick (FLA)
FLA
  1. Pacioretty, Max
Additional Details:
Florida loses out on Guentzel, Patches waives NMC and Caps get a future mid-round pick. Everyone is happy.
4.
WSH
  1. 2025 4th round pick (SEA)
SEA
  1. Aubé-Kubel, Nicolas
Additional Details:
No risk grit for rest of season. Pick can float up a round if he re-signs.
5.
WSH
  1. 2024 6th round pick (SJS)
VAN
  1. McIlrath, Dylan
Additional Details:
Zero risk depth defenseman

Honestly, I wouldn't even give a 4th for AA. Apart from his lack of development, EDM has enough LD depth. If it's adding a depth D, it'd likely be a veteran RD.

Fair assessment. Though I think someone takes a low-risk flyer on AA. Return would be 4th rounder or similar prospect with low-risk.

It's possible, but likely a prospect swap like between ANA & MTL earlier. EDM spent a '27 4th adding Stecher just now BTW.

Value wise the LA trade is fine, but I doubt they need ANOTHER RHD. I think they’ve got like 76 of them.
