Buying out Krug is a terrible idea, yes the first year would give a bunch of cap relief, but then youll have 5 more years at 2.3 mil. It would be more smart to retain 2.5-3 mil and hopefully trade him somewhere, that way you're only paying 4-3 mil for 3 years. But i do agree that getting kid of krug(plus maybe faulk) is a TOP priority this offseason. If we start next season with the same D corps, ima freak out

The thing is, because the cap is going to sharply rise the next 3-4-5 years, there is a retention amount where a buyout can make more sense if Army wants to utilize more cap savings right away. I'm not an economist, so I cannot tell you the exact dollar number, but best I can surmise it is in thr 2-2.5M range. I think. Like I said, not a business math expert.

Idk. I kind of have mixed feelings about this team. I don't think we should tank, but I feel Army should stop taking in reclamations like Kapanen and Hayes and just keep the cap flexibility and save the franchise some dollars. I realistically can't see this team making the playoffs in the next three years without some major shakeups to the D. I can respect not rushing a Buch trade if it wasn't there, but I think he might be the only piece we have that can start to restructure our defense.

Even then we don't have a next wave of Defense. Don't see Perunovich ever being an impactful player in St. Louis, Lindstein feels like a top 4 D, but despite the strong WJC I still can't shake that even he might not be impact player on the NHL roster someday. St. Louis isn't the team to fix things in FA and without a draft like last year soon I don't know that we can turn our defense into something consistent in the next 5 years.

We are pretty far away from Snuggerud and Dvorsky being true impact players and some degree there is a lot skepticism around Bolduc and Dean.
