Only way St. Louis thinks of giving up that big of a price is if you are taking krug back

targeting diff players than everyone else
First things first, any team that trades for buch probably wants a 6-7 year extension lined up before paying such a high price. So if we assume the habs reach a 6-7 year extension for 7.5-8 million than it would cost montreal a 1st 2nd and high end prospect(not top prospect like guhle or hudson) so maybe someone like filip mesar?

You're putting WAY too much value into a 5 8 winger who can get 60(maybe 70) points a year. Dvorsky is a two way consistent center, his potential as a top line PPG center with defensive upside, will always be more valuable then prime caufield

STL says no, Dvorsky's floor is caufield, Dvorsky is younger, salary controlled, and has a higher ceiling

doug does free agency
Buying out Krug is a terrible idea, yes the first year would give a bunch of cap relief, but then youll have 5 more years at 2.3 mil. It would be more smart to retain 2.5-3 mil and hopefully trade him somewhere, that way you're only paying 4-3 mil for 3 years. But i do agree that getting kid of krug(plus maybe faulk) is a TOP priority this offseason. If we start next season with the same D corps, ima freak out

Doesn’t have to be exactly that, just spitballing</div></div>
OK yeah i would accept that. Only problem is your cap space problem after the trade

Its actually not that bad of a Trade. The blues right now have a very easy to work around contract situation. Lucic would cost 5.5 million for 4 years if we buy him out. We can work around that

2 things, 1:Being bought out means u make even more money. 2: If the blues do decide to keep him for one year he might be happy with a change of scenary.

Why though? Buying out a player will last 8 years, thats a huge price to pay and you get a top 6 player

Also another option is let Lucic play one year out in St, Louis. If hes trash buy him out and you save 1 extra year of 600k and if he returns to a 6 million dollar player (lol) then good for him.

Tarasenko is it possible
I actaully had a good idea recently. Would the Oilers do a trade that is Lucic and Bouchard for a top 6 player like schwartz, tarasenko, or schenn? Obviously each player has different value but as a blues fan i would 100% take on the lucic contract if bouchard is there

Tarasenko and pietrangelo aren’t players you trade at the trade deadline. Bouwmeester, Maroon, and Schenn are players that will be traded.

The only TDL trade we should make
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juice</b></div><div>The main theme, which I agree with, is the leafs are likely better off trading mid picks/b-prospects for depth on defence...not sending 1sts/top prospects/current young roster players in a blockbuster type deal
My only caveat would be if, between now and the TDL, Nylander has his game back on track and there’s a sense Kapanen/Johnsson are looking for bigger paydays next year than can reasonably be fit...I’m okay parting with one of them in a package for a d-man with term on a good contract</div></div>
This is not the way to think. This is the last year of ELC on marner and Matthews. This year is the best shot you’ll have for the next 4 years. You guys need to trade for very good defense.
