Don’t think trading one of the face of this team is logic. Caufield already has experience and was on the 2021 roster, it would in fact set us back because Dvorsky’s development is behind Slafkovsky’s. He would be the most NHL ready prospect but not worth it.

We should build around Suzuki Slafkovsky and Hutson. Caufield is more of a complement, a one dimensional guy. Having him is super nice, but you shouldn’t base the whole team around him. Suzuki is the captain, ideally he would be our 2C because of his defensive game, offensive is also very good. If we can get that crazy 1C, ( Celebrini?) I promise you we are set for the next 10 years. And Slaf well he would play on the 1st line. Big skilled competitive good work ethic and personality.

Maybe add Dach and Guhle to that list

If we get Lindstrom :

Lindstrom Dvorsky Dach
Newhook Suzuki Slafkovsky

Seem to be a bigger and better top 6 to me

STL says no, Dvorsky's floor is caufield, Dvorsky is younger, salary controlled, and has a higher ceiling

His ceiling might be Caufield, definitely 0 guarantee he comes close. MTL gets fleeced here, its not even close

Montreal.

Firstly, why would they trade Caufield when they just locked him up to an 8 year contract?

Second, even if you call him and Dvorsky a wash, Barron for an ECHL'r?

Edit: There is probably a way of acquiring Dvorsky without trading Caufield too... like why even put Caufield in this deal other than to start a controversial discussion? Why not this years top 10 pick plus a prospect?

At the very very best case scenario, prime Dvorsky can become as good as prime Caufield. Will be better defensively, but will not put nearly as many goals, so it does even out a bit. However, Dvorksy is far from guaranteed to be anywhere near as good as Caufield, so lets keep the guaranteed talent

Blues say no - they need a #2 center more than another wing

While it would be nice to add another top 6 winger, STL desperately needs a 2C which will be Dvorsky long term. Would be awesome to have Caufield instead of Kyrou though.

You're putting WAY too much value into a 5 8 winger who can get 60(maybe 70) points a year. Dvorsky is a two way consistent center, his potential as a top line PPG center with defensive upside, will always be more valuable then prime caufield

He's getting 65 as a 23-year-old. 3 more solid years of point growth will get him to a projected constant 75 pts minimum, likely more because he has developed his play-making. Saying he "maybe gets 70" is just you clearly trying to win a point you know you cannot win. I'd be pleasantly surprised to see Dvorsky turn into a 70+ pt guy, but so far, he has 0 NHL points. So let's calm down on MTL trading a top 6, future star player, for a question mark. Even though Dvorsky's odds are good, he remains a question mark and definitely doesn't have close to more than Caufield's ceiling. Where Dvorsky gets the edge is being a center, bigger, and defensively responsible, however, that doesn't necessarily project to a better offensive player. For Caufield to move, we would need to talk about a Will Smith-level prospect, which Dvorksy isn't

Dvorsky is a very solid prospect but no way MTL does this.
