Schenn to Edmonton

Created by: STLBlues17
Team: 2018-19 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 8, 2019
Published: Jan. 14, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
STL
  1. Lucic, Milan
  2. 2019 1st round pick (EDM)
  3. 2020 1st round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
You have to think Lucic will waive his NMC. I mean, it’s just flat-out not working and he’s gotta hate it. The Armstrong run Blues have never bought out a contract, but they might consider it with Lucic.
EDM
  1. Schenn, Brayden
Additional Details:
Basicsally the same trade we got Schenn for but Lucic has a significantly worse contract.

Imagine if Mcdavid gets hurt next year while the Blues have their unprotected pick.

Its actually not that bad of a Trade. The blues right now have a very easy to work around contract situation. Lucic would cost 5.5 million for 4 years if we buy him out. We can work around that

Imagine Schwartz getting hurt again and 2 of our top 3 LWs being Lucic and Steen. if you make this move, it's gotta be a full, long rebuild

This is actually a really solid idea, but I'd think that STL would want a prospect too. I'd probably ask for a first and a prospect for Schenn anyways, plus you're taking on Lucic's contract.

I’m praying we can dump Steen this year. It’s not that he’s a terrible player, but I’m convinced he’s the “coach-killer.” He’s the one who I see consistently refusing to play a North-South game and playing the opposite the team wants him to.

They don’t really have a prospect I’d want. I’ve seen nothing in Puljujarvi and we’re already deep enough at right-wing.

Why would the Blues want to saddle themselves with Lucic? Seriously he's so terribly slow and his contract is just too painful to buyout, I can't imagine anyone would have any interest in trying to find a use for him or taking him in a trade and then buying him out.

Because Edmonton’s picks could be anywhere in the draft. What if Mcdavid gets hurt next year?

Have you used the buyout calculator? Lucic' contract is literally buyout proof.. Lol
What if Edmonton has a much better next season?
Seems a pretty risky move to take on Lucic for that return plus isn't St. Louis going to try to rebound and be competitive next season? I don't see them doing a full teardown/rebuild.

Yeah it’s bad. That being said, there’s a potential lockout coming so maybe they’ll throw us a raft. Obviously there’s quite a bit of risk, but also a nice reward attached.

I don't. If anything it helps Oilers become a better team and more balanced. Schenn in Hitch's system would thrive
