The Dream

Created by: krakowitz
Team: 2018-19 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 14, 2019
Published: Jan. 14, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I see Schenn as the perfect target for a few reasons

1. He just had 70 points last year, so he clearly has high end upside to his game

2. He can play center or wing, meaning if one of our top three centers goes down in the playoffs, Schenn can slide over

3. He dramatically increases the PP2 unit

4. He’s struggling enough that the Blues should be willing to retain on him in order to get better value pieces

5. He’s under contract for next year, meaning we can get two good runs out of him
Trades
WSH
  1. Schenn, Brayden ($2,125,000 retained)
STL
  1. Burakovsky, André
  2. Johansen, Lucas
  3. 2020 1st round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
Pick is conditional on performances of Burakovsky and Schenn

I didn’t have anything specific in mind for the conditions. I’m thinking something along the lines of if the Caps fail to make it out of the second round both 2019 and 2020, it becomes a 2nd and a 4th. Doesn’t have to be exactly that, just spitballing

For that package i'd rather go after a bigger fish. Never been a Schenn fan, think he's a bit overrated. Also you have to take into account that Schenn hates Wilson haha

Is the Schenn not liking Wilson thing a legit issue or just back from his days in Philly (plus the questionable hits he’s given the Blues lately)?

We’d be under the cap due to the deadline cap space being utilized. Just doesn’t show up that way on the website unfortunately

Isn’t that an awful package for STL? Bura has been a consistent healthy scratch and terrible defensively, Johansen doesn’t help STL considering they have so many defenders, and a late 1st?

I wouldn’t do it. Burakovsky is struggling and I’m not convinced Lucas Johansen is an NHL player. I’m almost convinced he’s going to the Bruins. JR said that apparently there’s a young player in their system that the Blues are very interested in so I’d expect it to be that player + a 1st.
