Clearing the bench is really tough. Too many long term, and perceived non value contracts no other team wants.

Coaches and Assistant coaches, and some players, should have made that more clear

Too bad you have Dubas as GM and President for six more years. How did ever pull that off?

Did Sullivan pick the players?

Maybe it's time to move on, but he didn't construct this roster and handcuff the team financially

I don't get the surprise lol.

They sold futures for years and years to compete (Successfully) and then sold some more even when it was clear that their time had passed. The core is aging and past their prime. This was inevitable.

I'm glad Dubas left, but
The Leafs should have done better than Trevling. After his poor career with the Flames, is this the guy you want? The owners of the Leafs over the years have done a really poor job in hiring good GMs
John Ferguson Junior, Brian, TV personality, Burke., Dave Nonis, Dubas, and Trevling.
This summer will make or break the Leafs short term future . They have lots of cap, that needs to be spent wisely. Of course the Leafs would have more cap if they hadn't resigned Nylander to a hometown premium (a Leaf tradition).
Then summer of 2025. Marner and Tavares coming off the books. How to spend that 22m?

I would think you'd want marner resigned and redistribute the Tavares money

With or without Sullivan, they just don't have the roster to compete. Not sure who they'd replace him with
