This is brutal for Ottawa imo. Dumoulin is pretty cooked. Larsson would be nice in Ottawa & Gourde would probably be a great locker presence but not worth it at that cost

I wanted to put the Seattle 1st in there instead of the two 2nds. You think that makes it good?

Definitely closer if the Seattle 1st was in it

I would really love that trade as ottawa. We could draft Nygard or Greentree as well as Parekh/Levshunov with our own 1st

idk this one feels weird to me. If we want to commit to winning over the next 2-3 years then moving batherson and chabot for pretty much exclusively veterans who are at the hump (or past the hump) of their careers doesnt make a lot of sense imo. If Batherson and Chabot are getting traded I would hope we are getting pieces with more long-term upside who can compliment the core of stutzle sanderson pinto greig and tkachuk moving forward

Committing to winning for 2-3 years is a terrible strategy . Idk how far you can go all in with this roster and they’d still wouldn’t win it all in the next 2-3 years

but then what does this trade do for us? Everyone coming from seattle is the type of player we would target if we were trying to win games next year. they are all rentals and the youngest player in that deal is going to be 32 by next year. Makes not a lot of sense to me to trade batherson and chabot for 3 old rentals and a 1st round pick. Just keep them both and target rentals with expendable assets if you want to find vets to fill specific holes. none of these guys on seattle should be untouchable for a second round pick

They help us stay more competitive while the young guys develop and they teach our young guys how to win games.

Strategy similar to what Detroit is doing

yeah but detroit is not getting those guys by trading away 2 of their most useful young roster players. They signed FAs to fairly high AAV deals on manageable term. If we want vets we can get them for way less in terms of controllable value or just spend in FA

Remember they moved Bertuzzi for a 2024 1st that we own which they got Debrincat with

And then they moved Hronek for a 1st and 2nd and got ASP.

If we can move Batherson and draft Nygard/Greentree and fill that spot short term with a vet then you do it

I would be way more comfortable turning Batherson and Chychrun/chabot into 2 1st and a 2nd instead of the 3 rental vets and 1 1st. If were trading Batherson and Chychrun/chabot, we need to be getting way more future value than this. I could totally understand us trading one of them to address immediate needs, but if both are going there needs to be way more long-term upside involved than the 1 mid 1st

like for the record, I like all those guys from seattle as targets in the short term, but not at the expense of pieces we would need long-term if we were to trade 2 of the guys in their mid 20s
