      Why would Philadelphia ever consider that? The buyouts on both Peterson, which you show, and Johansen are not bad at all. No way they pay anything to dump them. They wouldn't take them on if they planned to dump them.
      Same thing with the Campbell contract, the buyout isn't ridiculous, why does Edmonton do this?
      Vancouver isn't doing that either, they don't actually desperately need the cap space. If they want to move Mikheyev, they can retain and trade him for positive value. No reason to pay to move him.
      Jersey probably does that.

      Those trades don't happen unless there are pieces going back to make the teams more competitive. They are shedding salary sure, but they are also shedding the assets they would use to acquire players to fill said salary.

      Flyers aren't paying to get rid of those contracts, they both fall off the books after next season and the flyers aren't ready to spend on FA yet so they don't need the cap.
