It's Karlsson for Chabot.

Both are still "good" players, both have bad contracts relative to their on ice contributions. Karlsson's contract is worse because of his age and injury history. Chabot has been injury prone, but most of his injuries have been smaller ones, he is still young and in his prime.

Ottawa only does this to change the conversation around their bad season and get fans excited about the team.

Korpisalo is included to equalize the cap instead of Pittsburgh burning a retention spot. Pittsburgh can buy him out, bury him, or keep him as a backup goalie with the idea being it saves them 1.5 million to 2.5 million on a second goalie in free agency.

This only works if Chycrun signs an extension for less AAV than Chabot, then Ott could do this
