Plenty of space

Initial Creation Date: Mar. 17, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is a very simple base lineup the bruins could run next year with the resigning of Debrusk/sway and still have money to play with. The defense is all but set for next year. If lysell wins a job out of camp. It leaves us with 5mil extra and a pretty competive lineup. While I’m not agaisnt moving Ullmark and turning that 5mil into 10mil it still has to be the right trade that makes sense for the team. You could not bring back Jake and leave that roster spot open to fill with an Ullmark trade but I believe Jake is undervalued in the eyes of fans and if he extends at a good number he should be back on this team. At the end of the day this team has more than enough space and options to have a fun offseason.

There are also two glaring holes in the lineup. Sure, if we don't fill them, there's plenty of cap space.

1. My assumption is we are going to sign Heinen to like a 3 year, $2M contract that gives him security. He acts as our fourth line left wing / insurance policy if Lysell isn’t ready

2. I doubt they let Brandon Bussi see waivers. If we keep Ullmark, I anticipate he will be one of the 23 men on the roster.

3. The reality is a big free agent signing is going to be a decision between Ullmark or DeBrusk.

4. I can see a scenario where both are gone if the price for Ullmark is right and it enables one of Lindholm/Hanifin and an alternative at the position we don’t choose.

5. We will need to spend with the mindset that we have to extend Frederic and maybe Geekie in two years

What are the two “glaring” holes?

First line center or at least a top line/elite forward. Then, a top4 left-side defenseman. I guess you give the opportunity to Lohrei and see if he can handle the role. If not, acquire a defenseman later/before the deadline. Wotherspoon has been fine, but in a 6/7 role. We're one Lindholm injury away from serious trouble.

I'd argue they could use a solid 2nd liner who can drive his line and who is a step better than Zacha/DeBrusk/Coyle, but 1C/top4 LD are more important and it already won't be easy to find these two. Also, let's see what Lysell/Poitras/Merkulov's got and maybe if we're lucky, they can take that spot.

I’ve never been in the center is a hole camp. Our guys are having career years. And poitras took a spot as a 19 year old rookie. He has a spot

Looking forward to see Coyle and Zacha hold up in May and June (like it was planned for Haula 2 years ago). Poitras has played 33 games. Sure, making the team at 19yo is encouraging, but it doesn't guarantee anything. Anyways, it was more about the level of play he could bring than having a spot next season.
