Eh. He's going to be going into his age-30 season when he hits UFA. I could see a lower AAV on a long-term contract to spread out the cap hit.

He’s gonna want a max AAV for his final contract since he’s been unpaid his whole career. He’s a top winger in the league

I'm sure he's going to want it, I'm questioning whether there's a GM dumb enough to give it to him on a long term contract at 30. There usually is one dumb enough though, so he'll probably make out OK.

Players in the late 20s and early 30s get big contracts all the time….Sorokin, Kadri, Huberdeau, soon to be Igor, etc.

If you want a high quality player, you gotta pay for it

How are those Kadri and Huberdeau contracts looking? There are few and fewer of those every year. GMs are learning that they should be using the bulk of their cap space on retaining their younger RFAs instead of 30-something UFAs. But like I said it only takes one dumb GM, so...

I never said it was smart but guys get max contracts on the back end of their careers all the time

If you want Buch, you’d have to pay him a lot. He’s gonna be looking at Lee’s contract and say “I’m way better than him”
