my advice for Pierre

Created by: PistolP
Team: 2017-18 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 20, 2017
Published: Jul. 20, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
On defense, I think these are the players they will go with, but who plays with who, will depend, like last year, on situations. Phaneuf will be kept around to mentor Chabot, but then he will be delt next year to make room for Jaros.
If Landeskog can't be had for this then I would not make a deal, and we hope Ryan plays the season like he played the playoffs. If he plays like he has, we move his contract when we have to start paying Karlsson next deal, in two years.
As is they will be a very good group, that will play all 4 lines and be capable of making the playoffs, but I do expect a trade of at least Wideman and Hammond, but not until it will leverage the best return, probably in season. Brassard will likely not be ready at the beginning of the season, which provides an opportunity for someone else to get a look; Brown, Chlapik, Paul, or McCormick.

i like thinking of my team first just as much as the next guy, but when making an offer you gotta think about what the other team wants in return.

If Colorado is sold on blowing the team up and resetting with younger pieces...where is the logic in trading a super talented 24 year old Landeskog for a couple of old guys, irregardless of their production? If Ryan's production is the heavy in the deal, then why trade him for Landeskog in the first place?

And they have to give you a pick?? lol

First off, thanks for your response!

You're probably right, asking for a pick and a higher one at that, is asking too much. But I would argue that both players have disappointed, and with a high water mark of 26 goals and making a salary of 6 mil, a few years removed from that high, you don't think there is a risk for Ott. taking the player even at 24 yr. old, then I believe you should think again. And if, as you put it, "Colorado is sold on blowing the team up and resetting with younger pieces", then why are they offering "a super talented 24 year old". I get that in order to get something you have to give up something, and I ca't fault Sakic for asking for the moon for his players, but I am utlimately saying, Dorion don't give up the prospects for a little salary cap relief.

If Sakic agreed to that, I would be a very happy Sens fan... But Sakic would also lose his job lol. If anything the Sens would have to add a 1st for taking Ryan's contract and the ava would give a 3rd not a 2nd. It would be more plausible if it was Ryan, Ceci, Dzingel, 1st for Landskog, colborne, 3rd. Even that's iffy

Its crazy, as more teams become relevant, you see the crunch of teams having to part ways with players they don't want to lose. Welcome to the Chicago Blackhawks world I guess.

The thing for me that decides this, and what Sakic keeps saying, is that he doesn't have to trade any of his players. He is taking offers and wants to be overwhelmed, and rightfully so. Landaskog and Mackinnon are ultra talented players, if they put it together your talking about elite status. IF is no guarantee, I will grant you that...but the offer you submitted just isn't going to do it. You can bet that better has already been offered and turned down.
