For that return, I'd rather keep Ullmark. Bruins will have plenty of cap space this summer, they don't necessarly need to move Ullmark

You also probably want $3M of his salary removed to be expiring contracts or you are going to be in situation like Tampa Bay with Stamkos in the 2025 offseason with Marchand.

That’s one of the primary reasons why I am in zero rush to trade Ullmark. His expiring salary slot is about perfect to manage the expected increases with Geekie and Frederic.

I don’t expect Marchand to get a raise on his next deal I feel like he takes a discount and I don’t believe Geekie is a guaranteed extension I want to see what he looks like next year and Frederic shouldn’t cost too much more than his current cap hit

ah yes, when anyone looks at boston i'm sure their first thought is, "you know what they need? a scoring winger signed at big money until he's 35."

protect the cap, find centers.

I don’t expect Marchand to get a raise. I don’t want to be in a position where you need him to take a discount to keep players which is why I allocate about $3M of the remaining contracts to expirings. It’s a simple target and you can do a lot with it.

Signing Reinhart isn’t a realistic possibility for the Bruins and the panthers will probably end up extending him IMO but I just wanted to see what the cap would look like with him on the books

You could have substituted Hanifin or Guentzel. Either way, it’s a conceptual argument that says you could add 15.3m over three minimum players if you trade Ullmark.
