Description
Flames are retooling. Some quality young talent at the forward position, and Conroy did some good work to add young talent to the blueline. Not much else to do but sign the RFAs and let them play. Only then can you figure out the next steps.

Side Notes:

1. Tempting to move one of Magniapane or Kuzmenko to male room for Pelletier. Did not do this. As it sits, the Flames a actually do have a very interchangeable top 9. Moving one of them takes away from competition for ice time. Who rises to the top and who doesn't will give Conroy additional direction.

2. Magniapabe and Kuzmenko are likely traded at the TDL, for what I think would be more than now. And as I said above, letting this roster fight for icetime will give Conroy a sense of what he would want as a return.

3. Moving Markstrom would be a mistake. Mentor for Wolf. He doesn't want to leave. Has played great. Every reason to keep him.

Overall: while tempting to continue the tear down, taking a step back and seeing what transpires with this group will be much more prudent. Enough has been done already. Let this roster find an identity. What else is needed will present itself over the course of the season. I would not be hasty.

  1. 2025 3rd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Not that I am a proponent of the Pens moving picks, but, to land a relatively young goaltender who can play this maybe worth it. Seems clear Vladar was battling a nagging injury this year. More than capable of playing 30 games imo. Only 26; and can give the retooling Pens options.
PIT
  1. Vladar, Daniel
Additional Details:
It is Wolf's time. All that needs to be said. May have to settle for a 4th here..... not like GMs don't know the plan, and you have to think Vladar will not clear waivers. But I think a 3rd is about right.

A year ago I would have been hesitant to accept this as he had a decent season but Vladar (and probably partially due to games being few and far between) could be had for like a 5th or later right now

You don't think the hip had anything to do with it?

As for the return..... possibly correct. Kind of see this in terms of what he should be worth. The Goalie market is paper thin

The hip is definitely a likely factor. If we move Markstrom I have no issue keeping Vladar to see if he regains some value though

Dubas gave up a 1st for Foligno, so I am ruling nothing out.

There is nothing wrong with Vladar. Fine goaltender when healthy..... just see more value in keeping Markstrom through the term.

Depends on the offer. I would want Jeresy's 1st if we are moving Markstrom

Given just how weak the UFA goalie market is, that ask is not outrageous.

Given how well Conroy has done stocking the draft cupboard, I would accept a 2025 1st. This upcoming draft isn't particularly strong in comparison to others for starters; and having 2 1st in each draft through 2026 would give the Flames a very steady stream of talent...... and that would be on top of the pending moves involving Kuzmenko, Magniapane and maybe Sharangovich (he being price dependent).

I give this 2 years and they should be back in the saddle again.....

Pens don't need Vladar. They can just re-sign Ned.

Depends on if the Pens as an organization what to get younger. Vladar does that. And an extension would be pretty inexpensive too.

Ned is a bandaid solution imo. And Blomqvist with the addition of Vladar gives options with Jarry that with Med wouldn't exist.
