Lol, I actually am intrigued by a Marner as defense idea. Normally no, but if we are in need of an offensive shift like say 4 minutes left in second period and need a goal in the playoffs. Sending Marner out on defense with like McCabe gives us a defender with a good shot in MCcabe to cover the left and a great pick mover to cover the right. This on odd shift could potentially confuse the opponent and provide extra offense. Imagine sending out McCabe, Marner on defense and Bertuzzi, Matthews and Bertuzzi on offense. I chose Bert because of we could not get a goal we can then send out Reilly, Liljegren , McMann, Tavares and Nylander next. To really press for a goal with some decent defensive ability on our back end.

The coaches are often plagued by the position and don't open their minds. byfuglien is a great example. He really open up shifts playing both. Yes, byfuglien is different than Marner and better as a defenseman, but for shifts, this idea is intriguing and could be very beneficial.
