The Avs can afford him they just can’t afford Walker and Drouin. Neither of which are going to be with the team next year. It’s not going to be easy or painless but it’s doable.
Top 10 players usually stay with their team.

Do you think Colorado’s FO is dumb enough to lose Rantanen because they want to keep Manson, Walker, Drouin and Colton? Heck, even Girard or Lehkonen would go if needed.

They'll afford Rants. It just means they can't afford some of the other luxuries.

Caveat this comment with the following: IDK what your other conversations were. If someone was saying the team can afford to keep everyone, they are obviously wrong.

If Sakic and CMac turn into absolute morons like you have been here then no they wouldn't be able to. They aren't, and won't be. so Walker and Drouin almost certainly won't be on the roster at those figures and there is a good chance others will have moved by then. Therefore you've just proven exactly what we've been saying. The Avs can afford to keep Rantanen easily.

It was more of the usual we've suddenly started seeing......the Avs can't afford Rantanen and so we'll offer pennies on the dollar.
