I don’t think I would do this deal from the Avs side. I guess I like Sammy more than some and Dowd less. Perhaps it was all the bs about him being worth a first round pick at the deadline. I am intrigued by FEHÉRVÁRY but … the value seems close just not what I would do.

I think that's the rub. The value seems there, but it tweaks one way or another or is a pass altogether depending on your personal player evaluation. I'm far more down on Fehervary than most Caps fans (I think he is a legitimately bad player, and most everyone else sees him as a possible top-pairing guy), and I'm high on Girardi and his potential, especially relative to his contract. It's a move I could see the teams talking about given the Avs' possible cap issues and the Caps' clear defensive/aging issues.
