Opinions will vary. I tend to think most overrated players in this league fit two descriptions

1. Older players who have crossed a point of decline where they are still getting credit for what they used to be and their teams are struggling

2. Young, inconsistent former top prospects who get credit for what they are supposed to be

There are a lot of middle career players on this list that don’t appear to be all that highly regarded who are putting up numbers. Probably a few that were in 2, but have improved but not the level they were supposed to.

Players often shift between overrated and underrated. Its fluid depending on expectations

Atleast you have the guts to present it. My list would be composed of a lot of young players who get credit for what they should be instead of what they are and post deadline, I would be insulting most of the teams pursuing those high draft picks (not by choice).

Mine is based mostly on what I hear:

For example:

Tkachuk: I hear way too much about how he's some unicorn worth the moon (somehow worth more than his brother was).
Necas, again ridiculous talks being thrown around as trade pieces when the comps should be like Sam Reinhart.
Cooley, I think his rookie season has been overrated all year. Clearly behind Nemec and Slaf in my eyes this year
Gibson another below average year but his reputation is inflated
Vasy I feel like nobody has acknowledged or pointed out he's been a sub 0.900 goalie this year with below average analytics
Faber I feel like is riding off how many minutes he plays+his early season play despite being a lot worse since december started
Fowler I feel like people haven't caught onto just how much he's fallen off
Same with Larsson, he's regressed pretty significantly imo
Xhekaj imo is nothing more than a 7D enforcer
Dach gets way too much praise for a guy who's never cracked 20 even strength points'
I know you disagree on Zacha and Marchand but I think they get too much credit that should go to other guys (I think a LARGE portion of the rest of the bruins roster is underrated)
etc etc

The funny thing is I don’t really care if a player is viewed as overrated and underrated if we are winning.

I liked Tyler Bertuzzi for the Bruins last year, but at 775k … I’m getting probably 95% of his production from Danton Heinen. Does that make one overrated and the other underrated? Does it matter?

David Pastrnak is flat out carrying the offense and my believe is if you swapped him with one of the Conn Smythe nominees, Boston is probably worse, Does that make him underrated?

It’s why I love these unrealistic star from a bad team traded for a star from a good team deals. The good team probably doesn’t do it unless there is a belief that their star is going to decline or leave or is a jerk

Overall, I think I’m to the point where I just want to know how the players fit with the roster in terms of playing style
