    7m x 4 years for Gustafsson is a wild take. Same with 5 x 5 for Lafferty.

If you can’t reach the floor, and want to give some guys some contracts, then that’s ok, but that 4 years for Gustafson, and 5 years for Lafferty is not imo. They could take some bad contracts via trade.

lol you know you can just take cap dumps and also gain assets while doing so.

I understand your thoughts here, I would maybe choose different people besides Roy to give the contracts too, but I get your thoughts, its better to develop prospects with a betterish team.

I think what OP is trying to do here is create a little bit of a better team to try to develop our prospects around rather than just playing a full lineup of young guys. Cap dumps do not really help you do that

Thanks. Yes, trying to improve the team, not just reach the floor. Roy is a top 4 RD who provides solid defense. Gustafsson would be the pp qb. Lafferty to help replace Couture and Hertl at center. All major needs for the Sharks.

When I've posted Sharks 2024 UFA signings before, the feedback I received was that I wasn't offerring enough $ to convince anyone to sign with the last place Sharks. I may have gone too far the other way with this post, overpaying for UFA's. The years for Lafferty and Gustafsson proably are too long since the Sharks will need cap space to pay top young players coming off their ELC's in 2 to 4 years.

If the Sharks could meet their biggest needs (top 4 RD, pp qb, veteran 2C/3C) by taking on cap dumps and getting picks/prospects in the process that would, of course, be ideal. Don't think I've seen those available, but will look again.

Not trying to rush the Shark's rebuild or stop the tank, just trying to create a better atmosphere for the Shark's young players to develop. Lose slightly less. Provide veteran role models who wouldn't all be L4 or P3 on a better team.

I honestly think this is the right move as well.
