Yikes....realistic that Chychrun trade. Sure. Always find amazing that Ottawa signed seven UFAs (by this post)....and didn't have to give anything for them, but Utah has to give Crouse and picks for upcoming UFA Chychrun.

Yeah dude, signing a center coming off a 60 point season to 3 x $2.5M is very realistic.....

I’m not saying that this is a hyper realistic ACGM or whatever, but the thing you find wrong with this is that a player with a contract costs assets to acquire… and rhst UFAs can be signed for free???

I’m not sure I’m getting what you’re trying to say. I’m emulating what Detroit did last summer where they brought in a bunch of depth players, no superstars. As a matter of fact, I’m pretty sure they signed more than 7 UFAs.

And yes, Chychrun with an extension is going to get a return of a roster player and picks.

He’s also a player who was on the verge of ending his career with his play the previous two seasons. If not him, then someone else in the $2 mil range.

If I understand the original post by this guy, his issue is that I have signed unrestricted free agents (none of whom are superstars). And that I traded a player with term, who is extended, for a roster player and picks.

More silly extension talk. They rarely happen. Even worse, Utah has lots of cap, they can just sign UFAs, keep Crouse and their picks. Chychrun is hardly a premium NHL Dman.
I have nothing against the Sens or any team signing UFAs. But the Chychrun trade is so impractical for any team to consider....besides the Sens.

When he was having serious injury issues, yeah?

term on good deals is certainly a bonus, it's what makes guys like Hagel worth the haul that Chicago got for him. but I'm not sure why we're pretending like a guy having 1 year left on his deal suddenly makes him like, dead weight in trade value or something

Top playoff teams will make a trade if it they think the player they attain will help them put them over the top. But c'mon how can you compare one year of Chychrun till he's an UFA to Hagel. Hagel was a RFA at end of his Chicago signed contract, and would be under Tampa's control for two years. Plus Tampa traded the 5m cost ineffective Johnson who had three years left on his contract. That's why Chicago got a haul..

I don’t think it has anything to do with what you wrote to be honest. If Chychrun was a Leafs dman, then the Toronto faithful would argue he’s worth McDavid. At the end of the day, Ottawa won’t get the value that they sent to Arizona to acquire Chychrun, but a package that includes a middle of the pack forward and two 2nds is certainly reasonable, particularly when there’s an extension in place.
