Trades
STL
  1. Healey, Ryan [Reserve List]
  2. Rossi, Marco
  3. 2024 1st round pick (MIN)
  4. 2024 2nd round pick (MIN)
  5. 2025 2nd round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
Divisional trades are always iffy but I think this could be a huge win win for both sides.

Minnesota has been rumored to be shopping Rossi. I really don't know why as he has a bright future. But the point is he is being shopped.

Buch would need an extension in place and Minnesota could afford that with their dead salary coming off the books just in time to pay Buch. Adding Buch along with Yurov would likely convince Kaprizov to stay in Minnesota which would be huge for them. Buch can also temporarily play center with Kaprizov until Yurov comes over from Russia.

The Blues get a nice haul for Buch. They get younger and they get their 2C for next year. On top of that they get a young RHD who had a very solid year at Harvard and would become the Blues top RHD prospect (which isn't saying a lot but still).

A lot of moving pieces here but I think it fits together. The Blues move 3 picks up in the draft, making it easier to jump into the top 10 and grab a top dman. Minnesota holds on to a first round pick as well which should keep them happy. The cost of retaining on Buch would be dropping 3 picks in the draft and giving up a 2nd round pick next year, which increases the return.
MIN
  1. Buchnevich, Pavel ($2,900,000 retained)
  2. 2024 1st round pick (STL)

Value-wise, I think it's very close. I would maybe drop one of the 2nds to a 4th/5th.

The only thing is, are MIN trading a center for a winger? Not sure if they would do that position wise

The bones are interesting, but is Rossi a need? And would either team trade these main pieces to a rival?

I think there's better ways to the top 10 and better splurge targets. Or at least ones more suited to needs.

I like Buch, but certainly not that much. Buch is worth a good prospect and a late 1st. That's what Reinhart and Fiala each got and they were both RFAs at the time, while Buch will become an unrestricted free agent after one year.

I think this is assuming he signs an extension, with should have good chem with kaprizov and if MIN is bringing up other russians then thats a tight group with good chem... I really like this deal

As much as I don't like it I don't think I can disagree with you. I don't think the RFA vs UFA on an expiring contract like this means a whole lot in the offseason. I would assume that anyone acquiring him would have an eye on immediately extending. I don't think Healey fits that bill of the level of prospect you would look for, but that's not really too important to this statement. There's no way Minnesota would move Rossi in this framework of a deal at this juncture of his career. I think if you're looking at a player like Rossi it would probably be like Rossi and a 2nd. But that really also doesn't fit a large need for the Blues.

The pick swap part is interesting as it's really not much movement. Hard to put a value on moving up or down between 13 and 16 until you are at the draft and probably on the clock.

Fwiw I don't imagine that the Blues are going to trade Buch. I also don't imagine if they do it would be to Minnesota. But in all reality who knows.

I'm a big Rossi fan so I personally would love if the Blues got him. But Dvorsky could be blocked by the move or one of them would have to move to the wing. It's never a bad thing to have too many centers.

If you were to trade Buch what would be your ideal return? Would you target draft picks or younger players like Rossi, Holtz, etc... Or package Buch for a top dman (which would be almost impossible).

I'm not looking to trade him. If someone wants to blow the Blues away, like Army I will let them try. And with Minnesota being a rival, they would need to try real hard.

As for Rossi, I don't think he'd be a suitable winger. Dvorsky will be playing center.

I think you'd have to think incredibly highly of Rossi to do this.

Extremely interesting offer, one of the best on this site! I can only analyze this from a Wild perspective.

I think if the Wild can get a good extension for Buch and the 2025 2nd becomes conditional 2nd/4th round selection based on Buch's production or the Wild making the playoffs, this has great potential! Maybe the Blues could add an experienced depth piece to help our AHL club, but that's nitpicking.

I like Rossi a lot, but Buchnevich is a great fit for us. He fills the top6 scoring role we need, is a Russian star for Kaprizov and adds a bit of size.
