Fans of other teams will say this same stuff forever. Next season should have been a small step back season before the cap rises even more and JT is off the books. That's a build year.

Next year is going to be tough, we all knew this. The last year of JT's contract was going to be the hardest year to navigate. The pandemic keeping the cap down for 4 seasons certainly didn't help anything either. If better decisions were made this past off season we could be in a much better position but this has been a complete failure from the week after they were eliminated to when they will meekly bow out of the playoffs. It's been a terrible season.

With our luck, Keefe won't get fired, Treliving will trade Marner for some 32 year old former Norris contender with major term left. (Doughty for a resigned Marner or something). And then sign a bunch of 30 year olds who used to be good for way more than they are worth and the team will once again go nowhere but he worse off than they are now.

I want winning. Having 2 useless guys making 22 million is an obstacle to that.

One of those useless guys has played just 1 game and the other was the only guy to produce in the last game. You are the type who would throw Marner to the trash heap and make the team worse for no reason but to appease your emotions.

It's not emotional when there's data sample size of 8 years. It's evidence-based decision making, something that the guys who want to run it back every year have a tough time grasping.

No, the coach is obviously a big problem too. Goaltending has been awful. But it's just common sense that top heavy teams are fragile because one injury, illness, etc, can derail the team's success. Leafs need to be more balanced. Paying 4 guys 11 million and more doesn't work. Matthews isn't going anywhere. Nylander just signed. That leaves JT and Marner. They have to be shipped out to construct a better team.
