Additional Details:
Comp: 2014 trade for Jason Spezza (Alex Chiasson, Alex Guptill, Nick Paul, 2015 2nd). Spezza was in final year of deal in Ottawa and had unexpectedly asked for a trade, then blocked trades to other cities. When he initially signed, his cap hit was similar percentage of cap as Marner’s). Played center and was for years one of the top scorers in league. Dallas got back three big forwards, none were top prospects, but they took full cap.

I probably wouldn’t take it from Leafs perspective, but the universe of acceptable trades that the Devils would actually offer is bound to be small (probably nonexistent). So the only scenario I could see would be one like the Spezza situation, where player wants out, but uses NTC to block more lucrative offers.

Marner isn't worth what a lot of people on here think IMO because....
    a) he's a one year rental
    b) even as a UFA, his next contract is going to be massive and not a lot of teams can just fit a $12.5M or so contract for the next 7 years into their plans
    c) not a lot of teams have a matthews on the line with marner or even JT more recently....so what does he look like away from Matthews or JT?

    d) He has full control on where he goes. Even if he eventually asks for trade, it will likely be to where he chooses.
    e) Last time he was negotiating a new deal, Leafs had to sacrifice the Seth Jarvis pick to make room…and he held out until mid-September. He would not be taking any team-friendly discounts.

    f) same agent as Taylor Hall too…and people may remember the limited market that allowed when he was dealt from Buffalo to Boston.

No thanks on Marner HUGE PASS, still one problem there SOFT still. no size, too much speed let it go speed isnt everything. Dcore is still inexperience oh no they got a year under their belt still inexperience, again this team will get exposed in the playoff for relying on speed and lets be real teams know how to stop it so lets get some meat Foote gone, if your giving up on Holtz.
