Trades
1.
TOR
  1. 2025 3rd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
The Isles have holes to fill this summer on the blueline with four UFAs. Timmins would slot in at 3RHD behind Pulock and Dobson and man the 2PP unit. He's cheap price wise and young still at 24 and it would only cost a 3rd. The last time they did this kind of thing with Toronto they did OK with it.
NYI
  1. Timmins, Conor
Additional Details:
With the signing of Mattinen, who is much more a Treliving type in terms of reach and ballast, the jig is up for Timmins in Toronto. The PP is covered with Rielly and Liljegren which makes him more expendable.
2.
TOR
  1. 2024 3rd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
The Caps get a near point a game player at the AHL level with solid two way play and compete who can move and pot it from the top of the circle consistently that turned 24 in mid-season. A third round pick has only a 54% chance of making it and comes with a three year developmental runway. Steeves gives them someone who has a range of 6 to 9 in the forward pecking order right now.
WSH
  1. Steeves, Alex
Additional Details:
Steeves is in the unenviable position of being good enough for the pro team but not having an opening on a contending squad. He needs an opportunity elsewhere and Washington is in the early part of a re-build.
3.
TOR
  1. 2024 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Stylistically, Niemela resembles Letang in that he is a technician with a big brain as opposed to an outstanding physical specimen. With both he and Karlson aging out the Perns are going to need a new PP QB sooner rather than later. He is a righty who plays both sides and averaged nearly .6 PPG in his first year in NA as a 21 year old. Plus Dubas knows him well, he did draft him after all.
PIT
  1. Niemelä, Topi
Additional Details:
Like Timmins, Mattinen's arrival heralds a new day in Toronto, and it is likely that Niemela is no longer going to be a fit stylistically long term with the team. That the Leafs have Villeneuve only a year behind him in the pipeline makes this a simpler equation.

Quite literally, 0 of those teams accept those trades. You’re heavily overvaluing those players.

Steeves is a 24 year old who's only played 7 NHL games in his career and will be waiver eligible next year. Washington could just as easily call up Alex Limoges or an equivalent player if they wanted to acquire an AHLer instead of paying a 3rd rounder, and Steeves wouldn't have an NHL spot even as a scratch behind Miroshichenko and Sgarbossa who have already proven themselves at the NHL level. The Caps would pass here and find a different young-ish AHLer to sign in free agency.

As much as the Isles would probably benefit from a cheap RD3 behind Dobson and Pulock, they are stuck with Mayfield in that spot for the next six years, so zero chance that trade happens.

If the Caps wanted a guy like Steeves to throw a bone to Hershey they would do what they did like 4 times last summer and just sign AHL all-stars (Phillips, Limoges, Dube, Snively) to NHL deals not waste a 3rd rounder

So I'll say this once for all of you here because you all seem to have done the same thing. Made a call on these guys without having seen them play. I watched about 40-50 Marlies games this year. I watch about 40-50 Marlies games every year. I know what they have done there and what they can do and what they cannot. If you want to engage me in asking about that. I'll answer. If you just want to fire blanket one line condemnations based on out of date third party reporting based on their draft year or video game ratings, I'll ignore you. Your choice.
