Canadian menage a trois

Created by: MTLaveragefan
Team: 2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 30, 2024
Published: Apr. 30, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think I failed.

Y'all have no valuable assets other than the big 4... It's hard as hell.

Your best bed is to wait for Tavares' deal to expire - then you have 11M to sign some decent depth. If they can trade Tavares as a rental at this summer it would be even better.

3 way trade with Calgary, Montreal and Toronto.

Basically, Habs want to acquire a top line piece

Toronto needs a good Goalie and a good RHD

Flames are rebuilding and want picks and prospects.

Habs sends to CGY:

-2024 5th OVR
-2024 24th OVR
-Logan Mailloux
-Oliver Kapanen

CCGY sends to MTL:

-2024 9th OVR
-Markström
-Weegar

MTL then sends to TOR:

-Markström
-Weegar

TOR sends to MTL:

- Nylander
- Cowan

MTL sends Cowan to CGY.

FINAL:

HABS:

in:
Nylander and 2024 9th OVR (trade back)

out:
-2024 5th OVR
-2024 24th OVR
-Logan Mailloux
-Oliver Kapanen

GGY

in:

-2024 5th OVR (gets to draft Tij Iginla)
-2024 24th OVR
-Logan Mailloux (Weegar replacement)
-Oliver Kapanen

out:

-2024 9th OVR
-Markström
-Weegar

TORONTO:

in;

i personally believe if anyone in the core 4 is gonna go it's gonna be marner, and cowan is a very underrated prospect as well. i think leafs can get away with rolling a woll and solid backup split if we upgrade the d core big time as well

IMO, Marner is a pending UFA and he is likely to test the water to decide where he goes. So you can't get as much value for him... and whatever you get - it won't replace his contribution.

Make Weegar Andersson and it gets looked at. Anything including Weegar would more than likely get shut down. He’s a leader, one of the only guys signed long term, and he’s a top 10 d man in the the league

After watching what happened on the bench during the game; Many teams will stay away from that core of 4 players.

No character; just a bunch of Prima Donna`s.

Not what the HABS are looking for in a player

I think a guy like Nylander would fit in our locker room. He was basically telling Marner to stop crying.

Crosby has done it
Mckinnons done it
Stone has done it
You know , Champions

I have 100% no issue with the team leaders calling out someone dragging ass and crying.
If Marners injured he should sit and let another take his place.
But dont show up to a game beat up , drag ass then cry all game to those dragging your slack.

If this was for Marner i'd be a lot more worried than with Nylander.
Then again Marner was Suzuki's Training Partner for 2 years before he played a game for MTL as they both trained under The Hunter's and their Speed Skating Coach.
So maybe i wouldnt be as worried about it given i think Suzuki could motivate him but i can see how others would be.

All that said Invest in the youth
Re-Sign Toffoli and Monahan to help develop them again like they did our last crop
Sign them to high cap and less term with intent on trading them in year 3 if we're not contending for some reason
Im not interested in a long term investment like Nylander or even Marner who will need a deal basically right away.

I'd personally rather just acquire what we know works and put it in a timeline that works for us.
Maybe Toffoli and Monahan dont both re-sign but i think bringing 1/2 isnt impossible

The difference is that those Champions put the effort on the ice with every shift. Can`t say the same thing for the LEAFS FAB FOUR
