Staal for Soderberg

Created by: HeaveHo
Team: 2017-18 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 25, 2017
Published: Jul. 25, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Is this enough of a sweetener, along with the actual dollar savings ($14M - $10.6M = $3.4M), to get the Avs to take on Staal’s contract? I don’t know, but it seems to fill a position of need for both teams.

Would Staal waive his NTC to go to Colorado? Of course not. I don’t know why I’m even throwing this trade out there.

I've said this the last time this was posted:
when you retain money on Staal and take Söderbergs full contract you're dealing from a bad to worse position. make it the other way round and there's some use of this for the Rangers. what's the point on efficiently paying >7M for Söderberg for 3 years?

So the theory would be to trade black holes, and since mine is arguably less attractive then the picks are meant to sweeten the deal? Why am i eating money as well?

like I've previously said, I believe Söderberg has some upside left when put in the right environment (i.e. not Colorado) and I could live with him being on the team at 50%

I think Soderberg can at least fill a position of need and open up room on the roster to play some of the young LD in the system, like Bereglazov, Graves or Day. I also think Soderberg can get back to being a 40-50 pt, two way center away from Colorado.

I think Soderberg is overpaid, but still a useful roster player. Staal on the other hand...

Possibly, if he bounces back, yes I agree. I also think that the disgust for Staal overshadows that he is still an NHL defenseman, albeit a bad/3rd pair one who is disgustingly overpaid. hence I see the picks being the draw, but the money...makes it pointless. I would rather just keep the snow angel machine and my picks.
