<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Josh</b></div><div>I dont like the trade. And I think we need to move on past the Nash era. We tried, it failed, time to try something else.
Also dont see Namestnikov taking 3m, unless its an arbitration award - even then, he'd get more.
Finally, why are we signing Skjei to a big deal after the season he had?</div></div>
I dont really know how I feel about the trade either but that's what I think it would take.
Nash wouldn't be used as the "goal scorer" but as a utility guys who can take responsibility in all 3 zones (which is what he was when he was in NY).
I used contracts from a hockey graph editor who has had a better record of getting these things closer to accurate than anyone else I could find. I thought/think he would get more too. and if he does, I don't think it'll be from NYR.
I expect Skjei to get paid big time because the organization seems to be turning to him as the next "Mac" and I honestly wouldn't hate it. he had a bad year in a bad system with poor/inconsistent line mates. I think most would expect a significant bounce back, right?

I realize NYR are over the cap. This means either some players wont be signed or some will sign for less. OR you can unequally distribute the contracts throughout the years of the term.
Again, I made this based on the rumor(s) that we have all heard lately.

this is true. Maybe Nash isn't resigned. Maybe he's willing to go back to NY for less. a common and easy way to fix this is to prorate and/or distribute the money unequally.

prorate/distribute contracts. sign some for less or not at all. 2.2m isn't THAT hard to fix.
I think Tavares will get 12m too. I used a graph from @cane_matt. It predicted ~10m AAV

NYR post deadline and summer 2018 FA
after thinking it over there are 2 things to point out
1) reports say the rangers and jets discussed a trade involving Trouba and JT. if someone can find me a link saying it fell through because the rangers had to give more, I'll shut up. I thought it was because the rangers didnt want to give up a top 6 young F.
JTM shows signs of dominance and there's also times you can never find him on the ice. if a team thinks they can bring out the potential of JTM consistently then they'll definitely give up someone talented. I picked Trouba because they are expected to get similar contracts at the end of the season, they recently engaged in discussion (as mentioned, I never read anything saying the value wasn't there, I thought the rangers didnt want to pull the trigger), and Trouba, though not as volatile as JTM, shows signs of inconsistency at times as well along with getting injured somewhat regularly.
The reality is, right now nobody really knows what JTM will bring in return, hence, I went with someone who is expected to get a similar contract.
2) when I look at TOR, I think they have the talent to win the cup - vegas bookies agree. Based on the responses, I think I value Mac more than most people do. Pair him with someone who is half way capable of making good plays and I think he's a top 5 Dman in the league. Add in that you'd get him at a discount for 1.5 years and I think you get a heavy return.
Generally speaking, I think if you're NYR and trying to trade Mac, you demand a young talented C and either a 1st rounder or a high caliber prospect, and then maybe some. If you don't get it then walk. Again, maybe I value Mac more than most. I looked at TOR because of the wealth they have in the minors and because I think the only piece they are missing to win the cup is a lockdown Dman.
Grabs by himself should require a 1st rounder based off his late bloomed goal scoring ability while at a discount.
If you disagree and think Mac isn't worth that much, maybe you start at this point if you're NYR and negotiate down to someone not as promising as Dermott. The last thing I do if I'm TOR is trade Liljegren. If you saw him in the World Cup you'd understand.
I'm sure there's still disagreement but that's where the logic was. Feel free to criticize lol

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Is that the logic, the Leafs getting McDonagh is going to put them over the top this year? Leafs are third in the Atlantic. They are no where being close to the Cup, despite the begging of Rangers to take McDonagh.
Tampa, Boston, Washington, Blues are teams that might use the boast, but they are trading so much either.</div></div>
For what its worth, the Leafs are tied for 4th most likely to win the cup according to Vegas

wouldn't be too surprising if they trade Nylander for a defender when 1) they don't play Nylander properly (he gets Buch treatment), and 2) they also receive a goal scorer to replace him and 3) they get final pieces to win a cup this year, which is what trades at the deadline are for

Idk enough about Little's value to make an opinion about the trade.
Mika's contract (like it or not) is realistic.
Buying out Staal is the wrong decision. It makes more sense financially to buy his contract out after this season.

Another try for a center: Coyle
I really like this. I think what NYR are giving is good/fair in one sense. I think they also would like to allow more room for cap.
In another sense, MIN is in more of a need for right handed F than NYR right now, so I don't think they do it. And I don't think they have much of a desire for a LHD. But, I really like Coyle.
MAYBE, MIN is more intrigued to do it if Grabner was thrown in? Obviously Grabs had a surprisingly amount of goals last year. Maybe they think he can do it again, for cheaper than Coyle?
All in all I think it's too good to be true. I think NYR could maybe get something done with MIN or STL because they both have so many C.
