This. And if Mik signs for 4.5 it'll be for just a couple years. He's probably looking at ~$5 million.
This also puts NYR in a hole for a couple reasons. 1) They don't satisfy the C depth issue, 2) they only have $200,000 to work with throughout the year, 3) JVR is probably capped at 30 goals. Sounds like an older and more expensive version of CK and JT. So they probably don't resign him after this year. Which leads me to 4) you just gave up Holden (who cares) and 2 big draft picks when your organization is already struggling with prospects.
On the surface, this looks nice. But in the grand scheme of things, this does nothing but harm NYR.

RNH a possibility? + CAN WE PLEASE GET RID OF STAAL
Oilers will want more/different for RNH. Nobody wants to lose ~$3 million if it means they have to play old man Staal; furthermore, he doesn't waive his NMC for CAR.
You said it doesn't have to be CAR, but if Staal by some miracle waives his NMC, it's going to have to be with a contending team in need of vet Dmen that has a ton of cap space (this is obviously assuming there would be a ton of salary retained). The only 2 teams that COULD make sense, and this is already a stretch, is BOS and MTL. I feel crazy even saying that...

I like the aggressive approach - I wish NYR would do more of it. But I think that's too aggressive. I also think that deal with WPG is unrealistic.

I don't think the trade is bad or impossible, I just want to see how the cap will work. Mika gets at least $5 million. Trade for Bozak and then the rangers don't have much $$$ for depth.

Let's assume you're right and he does play on the 2nd or 3rd line, do we really want a unproven rookie given that much responsibility? Also, where's the depth?

If Hank wanted out, NYR don't trade Raanta. Even if he did, he's not waiving his NMC for Calgary. This is flawed everywhere.

Staal is not waiving his NMC for Arizona. Yzerman isn't trading Namestnikov. Not at all realistic.

I don't think we get Spooner with just holden and a 3rd round pick. The Duchene trade seems a little crazy in terms of what we're giving up. Also I don't exactly know if Staal would be traded with what you have. Seems like its another scenario of giving too much. Not bad.</div></div>
Seriously? Read the title, "none are happening". Staal doesn't waive his NTC for CAR, it's gonna take a lot more to get Duchene. The only trade at all realistic is the Spooner trade.

The Rangers are not getting a 1st line center for Nick Holden

That's not the point. They did a bunch of offers to show what they think Holden could fetch.
OP, that's why I'm giving you 3 stars instead of 2; gonna balance the score out. Of course Holden alone will not fetch a 1C, but when you add some other pieces to him, a team that needs defensive depth could cough up a 2C. Bozak for Holden+ seems less likely now, but the Rangers could probably get Spooner for Holden and a 1st/2nd. All four teams would be "making out like gangbusters here compared to [the Rangers]" because defensemen are typically valued more than forwards. Holden had a career year and has some talent on both sides of the puck; the problem is he's not very smart. Still, Holden alone could give the Rangers at least a 3C.</div></div>
I realized this right after I sent it. Apologies.

I made one very similar to this. I think this is about what to expect JG will do. As a NYR fan, however, I hope they make a bigger splash. They'll be able to make a move at the trade deadline with this roster though.

Could this work?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Barathrum_Obama</b></div><div>I don't think giving up Nash for Spooner solves NYRs problems. he's still a potent driver of play and placing a younger player on his opposite wing will be good for his game; I don't think the same will hold true for Spooner. I think Nashs value is higher for NYR than for other teams, so I don't believe Boston would be particularily interested either. like other Leafs fans pointed out, they don't want to lose Bozak for futures and their D depth is not the problem.</div></div>
I second this. But I like where your heads at.
Keep Nash for the last year of his contract. I think NYR get him cheap when they renew the contract a year from now.

Yeah the rangers would throw the pick in. Holden isn't bad, he was one of the rangers better Dmen for the first half of the year. He exceeded expectations with his goal and point production which makes him more valuable right now. Also, the market for Dmen is crazy. Girardi got $3m.
