RNH a possibility? + CAN WE PLEASE GET RID OF STAAL

Created by: Cjeths
Team: 2017-18 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 16, 2017
Published: Jul. 16, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Rangers will have a little over $24-$26 Million in cap space for the offseason after this one to re-sign Nash, Skjei, Vesey, Miller, Hayes, Grabner, Desharnais, and Puempel

Depends how much the cap rises

My belief is Halverson will replace Pavelec after this season

Skjei-$4.5Mil
Miller-$5 Mil
Hayes-$4 Mil
Vesey-$2.5Mil
Grabner-$2Mil
Nash-$3.5Mil
Desharnais$1.2
Puempel-$800,000

= $23.5Mil & $500,000-$2,000,000 in cap space

Trades
1.
NYR
  1. 2018 3rd round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Marc waived to play with Jordan
CAR
  1. Staal, Marc ($2,850,000 retained)
Additional Details:
With 50% salary retained he has to be somewhat an attractive asset

Doesn't have to be Carolina
2.
NYR
  1. Nugent-Hopkins, Ryan
Additional Details:
Oilers shed much needed cap space to fit in Draisaitl and Mcdavid contracts, while also bringing in a defenseman to replace Sekera while he is out long term.

Adam Tambellini can sneak on the Oilers team this year, Tambo has great offensive instincts and a good shot. He's been on two really bad Hartford Wolf Pack teams, so numbers do not do him justice, I've had the priviledge of watching him play, and the kids quite impressive
EDM
  1. Holden, Nick
  2. Tambellini, Adam
  3. 2019 1st round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
NYR acquire their 2C with youth, on a lengthy deal

Rangers lose a solid defenseman in Holden, and a good young center/winger in Tambellini. Also a first round pick.

I love both your trades with an explanation. However, I do feel that Zibenejad will need to get paid more $$$, and if Grabner has another season like this one, he'll be getting paid a TON more, even if it's not from NYR. This is still a really realistic representation of what NYR could look like. 5 stars.

One last thing, even though RNH is a great player and he's still young, Lias Anderson is probably going to be in that role in a few years, New York would be smart to maybe get an older guy in his early 30's to play second line. A guy like Spezza from Dallas with $2 million retained wouldn't be a bad trade. You also wouldn't have to give up a 1st.

No one knows how he got to 11+23, true. I don't think I like the RNH trade; his term is way too long imo

The worse reason ever for the Canes to trade for Marc Staal to "to play with his brother.". Canes have lots of Dmen, and don't throw around 3m around easily. Kinda like the Oiler trade for both teams. Just wonder if the Rangers will have long term buyers regret, and Oilers short term sellers regret.

Oilers will want more/different for RNH. Nobody wants to lose ~$3 million if it means they have to play old man Staal; furthermore, he doesn't waive his NMC for CAR.

You said it doesn't have to be CAR, but if Staal by some miracle waives his NMC, it's going to have to be with a contending team in need of vet Dmen that has a ton of cap space (this is obviously assuming there would be a ton of salary retained). The only 2 teams that COULD make sense, and this is already a stretch, is BOS and MTL. I feel crazy even saying that...
