Marner wants to go to Pittsburgh. Dubas wants Marner. Toronto isn't looking for futures for Marner so the Flames help out. Values probably aren't quite right but something along these lines.

Calgary and Pittsburgh won't be doing that but cut Toronto out and Calgary would trade Andersson for the Penguins two 1sts + Graves. The Pens 2024 1st + Graves would work for Calgary too if Graves comes with a little retention.

Dubas loves his analytic darling Marner.

Andersson would be a 3rd pairing d man on Pittsburghs right side.

That is an absurd price for PIT to pay for a guy with one year left on his contract.

Retention and moving Graves costs a 1st, 1st and Yager for marner.

I dunno about that Letang is 37, Karlsson is 33. I assume the Pens would find a way to get one of those contracts off the books otherwise trading for Andersson makes no sense for them at all. BTW, I said Calgary would do it I didn't say Pittsburgh would do it but they might if they can move Letang or Karlsson.

that's an easy no for the penguins.
Graves doesn't cost a 1st to move.

Marner also has full say in where he lands (if they trade him) and GM's know that. They're not going to offer much and force TOR to either take what they can get or let him go to FA.

I know. The point is Pittsburgh would be more likely to trade for a Letang/Karlsson replacement than to trade for Marner. I'm not saying it's very likely just that's it's more likely.

I think it's much more likely Dubas tries to upgrade his offense then the D. They were one of the lowest scoring teams in the league last year.

Spelling out a bad deal doesn't make a bad deal good.

Lose a 1st, retention and graves then. Yager and a 1st isn't a bad deal for Marner.

I'm fairly settled in the camp that Marner isn't a good fit for Pittsburgh. And a team that close to a rebuild and with that bad of a prospect pool shouldn't be trading away 2 1sts and their top prospects in one deal.

You're probably right but trading for Marner is exactly the type of move I can see Dubas making.
