Orlov is easily worth the extra 2.75 mil cap hit compared to Smith. Zero interest in this trade from the canes.

This allows the Canes to resign Skjei instead, which is better for them IMO.

I think the canes see Orlov as an important piece to help recruit Nikishin from Russia. Orlov has been viewed as the stop gap 2LD replacement between Skjei and Nikishin since he was signed last summer.
