Yeah that contract will be UGLY in a season or 2 (already looks bad) but I bet Wilson plays a few more years then eventually goes to LTIRetirement.

15 mil is a ton of retention, even over 7 years. 1 year of JT does nothing for the Capitals.

I think the canes see Orlov as an important piece to help recruit Nikishin from Russia. Orlov has been viewed as the stop gap 2LD replacement between Skjei and Nikishin since he was signed last summer.

Orlov is easily worth the extra 2.75 mil cap hit compared to Smith. Zero interest in this trade from the canes.

Thanks for your input regarding how the refs officiate Rempe on my post about how I'd deploy the Canes lines tonight, it was very educational. Enjoy the series.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Cornbreadnhl</b></div><div>Got everything to do with it. You want to shake up the lines to try to win the game, but you shouldn't worry since the refs have targeted Rempe for a penalty for anything he does, so the Canes should get another 5+ power plays tonight. If Rempe hit someone like DeAngelo hit Cuylee, he would have got a 5 minute major, ejected and probably a suspension. It's the Rangers vs the Canes and refs, and they will still win.</div></div>
Jesus you guys are brain dead. TDA is about 7 inches shorter than Rempe so yeah, if Rempe did the same hit it would've been directly to the head, Tony's hit was arguably clean and with the way you guys support Trouba's hits I'm surprised you guys are having such a fuss about it (TDA got penalized anyways lol). Sure Rempe has a bad penalty called every once in awhile but that is what happens when he plays the way he does lol. You seem very upset for someone up 1-0 in the series.

Fair point about Dundon, I'm just not sure if an upgrade over Rod is available at the moment though. Hell, the Sabres just rehired Lindy Ruff and all signs point to the Sens hiring Travis Green lol. It is a barren wasteland out there in coaching land

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfkst1</b></div><div>Brindamour might want to go somewhere else which is perfectly acceptable. I seriously doubt a single VALUABLE Carolina fan that attends games and spends money on the league will leave the fan base because the coach leaves. And if they do, they were a pathetically disloyal fan to begin with. I think Brindamour is very good. Doesn't mean he is some NHL coaching God. He's won absolutely nothing so far either.</div></div>
Rod has claimed numerous times he doesn't want to coach anywhere else. He has doubled the valuation of the franchise since being hired and obviously wants him and his coaching staff compensated fairly for that. As I said, I was exaggerating saying Dundon would lose half the fanbase but the Canes as an org have changed night and day since Rod was hired and he is a Hurricanes legend hence why a lot of the fanbase would be upset. We went through some brutal times in during the 2010's and don't want to go back there.

Rod has brought relevance back to Carolina. We were awful for 10 years after getting swept by the Pens in the ECF and have made the playoffs every year since Rod came. Obviously half is an exaggeration but the fanbase would not be happy.

If we were to get a guy like McCann I'd think he plays 2c, we move Kuzy for FC's and then resign Drury. This would free up some cap space to sign some depth pieces like resigning Martinook or Noesen.

Canes don't want Rakell, if they want out of KK's contract they can package a pick with him to get rid of him or just buy him out since the penalty isn't that steep.

If I had to guess KK will start the post season being the scratch and Fast will draw in. I could see Rod rotating the 4th line though following losses. I also think Kuzy could be a darkhorse to get scratched a few games depending on how he plays.

keeping jake jarvy necas no kk skjei pesce
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Black61</b></div><div>I think one thing to keep in mind looking at that is slavin burns and orlov all only have 1 year. You let pesce and skjei walk you are at risk of losong basically your top 5 in 2 offseasons.
Burns also will be 40 next summer and orlov 34. They might not be the guys they are today by then.
Having one pesce and skjei back atleast helps stabalize that situation.</div></div>
Totally agree, on top of this being my prediction on how this off season will turn out, it also highlights the weaknesses that can develop. The main ones being a 2c behind Aho (will Jarvis or Necas eventually move to center or will we need to acquire one?), and RD once Burns retires and Pesce walks. Having Morrow is great but after next season I can see RD and C being an issue.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Black61</b></div><div>Thats a worse team than this year for sure.
Your asking slavin and burns to do a lot of heavy lifting there as thats a pretty weak dcore.
I get that canes fans like chatfield but its easy to look good in a 15 min a night heavily shletered role. Giving him that kind of money at the expense of others like skjei or pesce is a terrible idea especially when aho is also a depth guy and morrow is a major question mark.
If you want to keep martinook offer him less maybe with a extra year. 3x1.5. You cant pay someone like him 2.5. Same with noesen.
You do that and move fast and you can likely keep one of pesce or skjei which makes way more sense.</div></div>
I definitely agree with you that this team is worse but it will be a transition year in which we should be able to be competitive unless things go extremely bad. Orlov is still playing very well and we aren't going to commit long term money to a 2LD with Nikishin coming over soon although I'd love to somehow keep Skjei. Also agree on money and term regarding Martinook and Noesen, just wanted to retain them and not underpay on the ACGM.
Moving Fast to retain 1 of Pesce or Skjei is definitely a scenario that could happen this off season as well.

Yup, have to think our forward lines will look like this in the playoffs (If svech gets his head out of his rear end I'd love to switch him and martinook). Definitely a higher chance we move on from KK this off season than I had thought a couple weeks ago.
